    DVD recorder for MCA 2.7

     Greetings...

I'm looking for a higly professional DVD recorder (blu-ray too if applicable) that can be plugged directly into the Avid media composer Adrenaline, and that allow me to output sequences into DVD.

I'd be grateful if you can name a brand and a model that will work with my Avid machine, and what's the way to connect it to the DNA box; which output connectors...etc

    Thanks

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

When you say "a model that will work with my Avid machine" do you mean "a model that can be controlled by the Digital Cut function of my Avid machine"?  If so, I'm not sure such a thing exists (I've never heard of one, anyway).

If, on the other hand, you just want to hook up a DVD recorder so you can press record on the DVD player and press play on your Avid sequence and play it out, there are tons of those.

Let us know a little more about what exactly you're hoping to accomplish.

    good luck,
    Carl

     Dear Carl...

Thanks for your quick reply, I do really appreciated. Yes, I'm looking to hook up a DVD recorder (blu-ray will be brilliant if applicable) and press record on it and play out my avid sequence. The price isn't important, what matters to us is the quality. So I'd be grateful if you can suggest best of the best :).

On the other hand, we are thinking too to have a highly professional DVD authouring station (doing it through encoders I mean), so also a good suggestion about what those guys in Hollywood do use to have such facinating DVDs. is it Sonic Scenarist? is it a combination of hardware and software? how it's connected to Avid? is it a sperated workstation and if so how it get access to the media files? how's the whole workflow of professional DVD authouring is done in Hollywood? Again don't look at the price, please made your suggestion for the best of the best...

    Thanks Carl

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

After a bit of Googling around the interweb, here's what I've learned:

As far as I could find, there are no stand alone Blu-Ray capable DVD recorders yet.  I know the second I type this, someone else will find one, but I searched Sony, Panasonic and B&H photo and didn't find any.

I know a lot of people on the forums have stand alone DVD recorders, and hopefully they'll start chiming in soon with recommendations regarding both models and how to hook them up to your system for best quality.

Do you have a reseller you trust in your area?  This is a big job both technically and financially, and while people on here can give you some advice, I'd seriously look into getting some professionals around to take a look at your operation and make suggestions.

    good luck,
    Carl

    Hello, someone here :  click here . . .

But seriously, Blu Ray is still in it's infancy with many compatibility issues, so unless you specifically need Blu Ray I would stick to DVD for now.

Pioneer do some very good professional DVD recorders with up to SDI inputs

We use the Pioneer PRV-LX10 in our system for realtime DVD recording of any playback output. We are very happy with it. You have the option of a simple straightforward tape style dub, or within the machine itself with optional software, you can DVD author and chapter.

Hahaha!  Good find, Brian.  I knew it would happen, but I don't feel too bad, as that article is only 10 days old, and the recorder is only available in Japan.  If I could have found one at Best Buy or Comet or someplace, I'd be disappointed.  Cool

    adios,

Re: DVD recorder for MCA 2.7

Thanks for all the help and answers, it's really great to get all that help.

Bsuttie, does Pioneer PRV LX10 record an HD 1080:24P sequence out of Avid? and How it's hooked to Avid MCA box? does it need any modifications in settings of the Avid software to do the downconvert? and regarding the Sony blu-ray recorder, does it hook with the avid MCA?

Regarding the software+ hardware encoding and decoding, any idea what workflow we should adapt?

    Thanks again

    Dan
