Editor friend of mine told me that he's has not upgraded to Media Composer from Xpress Pro because he didn't think MC supported DV (DV25 and DV50) like AXP did? Also something about MC not allowing you to playback some thing unrendered like AXP? And another thing about multiple layers or nesting he didn't think he could do in MC? Said he company actual even went back to AXP on some systems cause it was easier and cheaper when working with DV.
So my question is this. With the AXP being discontinued, does the latest version of MC v2.8 have all the features and functionality of AXP as well or are you giving something up by upgrading?

Your friend is wrong. AXP is Media Composer with a few keyboard mapping differences and a lot of things removed. As you move up from AXP to Media Composer to Symphony you just add features, never remove them. In fact, if you find a bug in AXP you'll likely find it in Media Composer and vice versa. Same code, AXP just has features disabled.
Michael.
Your friend probably use old version of Media Composer. Old versions of MC had less features.
Same thing with old Xpress Pro Merdidien software with 3:1, 4:1s and 10:1 quality options.
All new systems have much more options than before.
