hi
im a uni student, im using avid for the first time. were using a green screen for a project and its been suggested to use after effects rather than avid itself as it will be of a much better quality
however my tutor has mentioned that it can be difficult to get the clips back from after effects to avid. i was wondering why this was, and if there is any tips on doing it that you could provide me with
thanks
Give us the details of the Avid version number and the AE system and we'll see if we can help. For what it's worth, I do this all the time and have absolutely no problems.
Agreed Natalie, not difficult at all. Just let us know what type of project and resolution you are using and we'll give you the 411.

ok will do, not at uni at the moment, but il get them as soon as i can
thanks heaps
That said, as a total AE addict you could do a pretty decent green screen job using just Media Composer if you can get it. It would save you the back and forth.
hi sorry it took so long to get back to you
the avid version were using is express 4 i think , and for after effects 6.5
were shooting on film if that has any impact?
So, if AE is on the same system as the Avid, just export a QT reference, open that in AE and do your green screen there. Export out of AE using one of the Avid codecs (IF you are using film, I would use the Meridian uncompressed codec if you are in SD, if HD, then the Avid packed codec.). Once that's done, import back into Avid.
Stay with RGB color space as there are a few gotchas with 601 right now.
sorry if im a bit slow with this, iv only just started using avid and after effects and havent done green screen before
the AE is on a different system to the avid, however we save our projects to a server which we can access on either system. does that make a big difference?
If the Media is also on that same serve, no. You can still use a QT ref. IF it is not, then just output a QT same as as source.
Awesome thanks for that!
I'l see how i go.
