I'll be upgrading from XPro to Media Composer via Avid's software package. I hope to edit HD and wonder whether my MC upgrade will allow me to input HDV or DVCPro HD, edit with Avid's DNxHD codec and then output the finished project with the minimal degradation that DNxHD provides. Frankly, I find it hard to follow some of Avid's explanations of which versions of the codec work under what conditions and limitations with which versions of Media Composer.
My system uses the basic Mojo with specs meeting Avid requirements, including 3G RAM, 800G disc space.
Thanks for any experience or info you could share on this.
You can edit HDV (make a 1080i HDV project) then change the project format to allow use of the xtra resolutions MC soft gives you by transcoding. There are tables in the online help that will tell you how much space various resolutions eat up per minute, and what project types allow what resolutions - do a search for these. You still won't be able to output HD via your Mojo, SD only. That's a hardware, not a software limitation.
