    Re: Is Adrenaline dead ?

I attended last night's event.   The Nitris DX will sell for $12,500 as an upgrade price to those who already own Media Composer.   There's a turn key solution with a workstation that's around 22K.   Based on what I saw, from a price/performance perspective I would say that the Adrenaline will go the way of the paper weight.  The DX line of boxes takes full advantage of the inherent speed in PCI-e architecture - which is blazingly fast... I believe that the PCI-e standard can handle up to 10 Gigabytes per second stream.  Do check me on that.... I may be wrong on the exact number, but I do know that there's more than enough bandwidth there to handle far beyond the demands of a single stream of uncompressed HD video.  The boxes themselves don't really accelerate anything - they're more input/output devices.   They're all SDI and the major difference between the Mojo DX and the Nitris DX is flexibility.   The Nitris DX allows for component connections and has balanced audio input and outputs.  It also provides two sets of SDI in and outs.   Both boxes also have HDMI outs for hi def monitors.

    Hi

I was assuming the Mojo DX would still use a firewire host connection,

and basically just be a mojo sdi with HD and HDMI added to it.

Are you sure the Mojo DX uses a PCIe host connection and not firewire?

Word is that Mojo DX is a rackmount device, connected to a PCIe host card.

    Re: Is Adrenaline dead ?

The problem for Adrenaline is it is firewire base and HD-video can not be transfered uncompressed througth firewire. Therefore, Avid will use pcie for both Nitris DX and Mojo DX because they will support HD.

Absolutely, that's why the new hardware is so much more powerful.   Firewire has limited bandwidth.  PCIe - has a 10Gb bandwidth.

No.  No literature was handed out Tuesday night.  I'm not sure what the plans are, but I would guess you'll see tech specs on the web site come Monday.

No photos but let me describe one.

Both boxes are 2 rack units tall, have color and styling similar to Nitris and Adrenaline. There is a handsome honeycomb grille in the front. That's all new.

Since the profile is small the back is jam packed with connectors. Probably for this reason AES/EBU is provided as a single multipin connector.

    Re: Is Adrenaline dead ?

Actually, the Mojo DX is a single rack unit device, and the Nitris DX is a double rack unit. Yes, both devices use PCI-e. As near as I could tell, the Mojo DX has absolutely no analog inputs at all and the only analog outputs are a pair of stereo audio jacks for monitoring. The SDI jacks handle both SD and HD: they're software switchable.

The Nitris DX has the full complement of analog and digital I/O.

I was told by one of the Avid folks that MC would handle uncompressed HD using either of these boxes. Can anybody else confirm this?

Nice looking boxes. Still worried about the price slightly -- at least the price quoted at the event. Hopefully it might adjust as they get feedback? We'll know soon enough, I guess.

"The Nitris DX will sell for $12,500 as an upgrade price to those who already own Media Composer..."

Is there a link to an official upgrade pricing page that confirms this? Is there a trade-in available for existing Adrenaline owners who wish to upgrade to Nitris DX? Thanks guys.

    Re: Is Adrenaline dead ?

Yes- I would like an answer to this as well.

I have been using FCP for the last year and a half- just to get HD out. I hate it.

I want to come back to my Avid- but how much will Avid give me for the "future" proof Adrenaline they sold me?

I have had a whole lot of trouble with the Adrenaline since day one. I got mine very early on- v1. The whole firewire thing always seemed suspect to me- but I believed the Avid hype. The whole 7,000 HD card was too much. I went to FCP and yes- I still want to come back. I would love to see some good customer support by providing a killer trade-in value. If not- how much is a used Adrenaline worth these days?
