Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

I received the sales E-mail from Sorenson to upgrade to Squeeze 5 from the version 4.5 for $199. I believe this is too steep of a jump from regular upgrade price of $79.00 to $199.

It doesnt make any sense when there is a steep competition going around with the other compression softwares like Procoder3.0.

     I wasn't sure I was reading the $199 price right-yikes!

I got Squeeze through Avid when I bought AXP and have upgraded once. Version 5 looks like an improvement worth the upgrade price. I'll wait to hear what users have to say before I upgrade. Leo

$199 price is for upgrade from version 4.5 to 5.0. Any prior version to 4.5 they have to pay full price of 499.00.

Maybe I missed something, but it just seems like a few more presets and batch conversions (several at once).  In my estimation $199 is too much for these minor features.

Re: Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

I was in the Squeeze 5 Beta and other than better organization for presets (to an extent) and a really upgly skin for the software I didn't find any improvement or specific reason to upgrade from 4.5.

I haven't reviewed 100% of the new features, but I only use it for batch encoding and I'll be sticking with 4.5 for a while.  I think if they allowed me to use the 4.5 skin on 5.0 I might consider the upgrade ;).

Well it gets worse - the pricew from Squeeze Compression Suite 4.5 (which is what most Avid users have) is $199 to upgrade Squeeze 5 but you lose a lot of the Pro codecs you had in compression suite. The nearest equivalent is Squeeze 5 Pro which will cost you $299 -- forget about it and hopefully Avid will continue to work with 4.5.7....

Re: Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

Why is "Upgrade Suite 4.5 to Pro 5" so much more expensive on the mac?

Upgrade Suite 4.5 to Pro 5 for Windows -- Shipped CD $ 299.00

Upgrade Suite 4.5 to Pro 5 for Mac -- Shipped CD $ 479.00

Wait, why are all the mac versions more expensive? I'll be sticking with 4.5.7 for quite a while.

Unfortunately, I am not included in 'most Avid users have". I am Still with 4.3, I took a look at the 4.5 additional features which didn't give me any reason to upgrade. What has V5 to propose?

I however have upgraded to Procoder 3, slower, but...............

Re: Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

That is a pretty steep price for an upgrade.  I was also in the Squeeze 5 beta.  It looked nice, the only real improvement I could see was that is had more image processing filters than the previose versions.  I'm planning to stick with 4.5 for the time being.  Does everything I need it to do for now and seemd just as fast as 5.

Re: Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

I thought the big deal about this release was the ability to process multiple files and save a lot of time in doing so. I think that is well worth the price for its ability to take advantage of multiple processors. I know that the amount of time I will save with this capability is worth more than $199. See below:

"Sorenson Squeeze 5 dramatically reduces encode times on multi-core machines by allowing users to compress and encode as many as 1.5 files on each of the host computer’s processor cores, enabling a quad-core processor, for example, to process six files simultaneously."

    This

I fear this upgrade is only for a few of us, but won't interest everybody . My first concern is QUALITY which is NOT what about Sorenson can be proud..

It really doesn't happen every day to me to have simultaneously 6 files to encode !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Squeeze 5 upgrade price too high

You can just open 4.5 as many times as you need so if you have 2 or 3 files to encode just open Sorenson that many times and encode those files seperatly at the same time...
