    Bus Errors Fixed!!!

Ok, here is the solution.  Buy a Mac Pro.  After buying Mac Pro and installing MC 2.8. I have yet to have a Bus Error after 2 weeks!

Our Current G5's still have the issue, 3 to 4 times daily.

Save your pennies. It's worth it.

    Good Luck.

Nah, I've got Mac Pros and still get them.

Can you try something for me though? On your G5s, can you reset the PMU/SMU switch (I think it's a little button near the battery on the motherboard)?

Avid is theorizing that reseting the power management on the FW bus could help alleviate some of these errors. I'd like a couple of sites to help me test this. If you feel comfortable opening up your G5s, it sure would be a big contribution to the testing.

    Re: Bus Errors Fixed!!!

Any reason why firewire bandwidth would be an issue on MXF offline files vs OMF offline files?

We do not get any bus errors on OMF projects, only MXF.

    I'll do the test also....

    Brent

It's a widespread issue with many causes.  I am %99 OMF and get them 4 or 5 times a week.

wow. Really? I see from your specs that your also Mac Intel. That blows a hole in my/Avid's conclusion.

yikes. Maybe Avid should ditch firewire and go back to a PCI card... ha!

OEM an AJA board. Ha! Ha!

    not funny actually.

Well, well, you obviously have second sight (see Avid's pre-NAB announcements)! BTW I've been free of these Bus errors mostly until I began dicking with a custom Pixelchooser shape in BCC4 today. Crashed it every time. Tried to reinstall Boris but I've lost the 4.2.2 updater. If Boris don't come through I'll be backon here bleating Super Angry.
