Let me ask this.
Will exporting with RGB levels not stretch my levels from 16-235 space into 0-255. Therefor, if I color correct using a 0-255 scale, will exporting RGB not stretch out those values crushing the blacks further, and pushing the whites up higher?
But, on the other hand, if I exported 601 (even though its not meant for broadcast) it would leave my levels exactly as they were in the Avid timeline?
no
if you export at 601, in an RGB world (like the internet / PC screens), the black will be at 16 and look milky and the white at 235, which will look dull. If you export RGB you will export the entire range 0-255. So I would suggest ccing in 0-255 and exporting RGB.
I think....give it a go on a clip, I think this is the way to go.

Tobyjt;
Take a look at this document: <http://www.24p.com/HVX200_1.htm>
The Avid can mix any supported coded with any frame size (1080, 720, SD) as long as they have "like frame rates."
Where this gets confusing are the names Panasonic uses. For example, 720p/24 isn't a 24p frame rate, its a 720p/59.94 clip with frame segmentation added to give the clip a 24p look. This will not play in a 24p project type. That document lists all the names Panasonic uses with the Avid project they will natively work in.
No render means an Avid can't render to the AVC-I codec like it can render to the DVCPro HD, DNxHD codec. The AVC-I clips can be imported like any other P2 card and edited with right away adding real-time effects.

OK.....where'd that come from!?
Some people on the forum here are having trouble using AVC-Intra100 and rendering (even after setting render to a DNxHD codec).
I know about the resolution independancy of Media Composer, so where'd that come from?
And what about the Panasonic AJ-HPX3000 1080p AVC-Intra100 camera, that does 'proper' 24p doesn't it ?
There is a bug with 3.0 and rendering clips that are AVC-I to a different codec. This should be fixed in the next patch release.

As far as I can tell, the HPX3000 can record AVC-I 100 @ 1080p 23.976. But this is called 24pN - N for native. 24p is not the same thing.
Bob
Does anyone know a good place (web/documents) to start researching for a 23.976 to film out (24p) workflow (incl. audio).?
Let's me ask this. I import EDL from FCP to continue editing in AVid MC 2.8.3
by imported P2 media to media drive and import by clip to bin.
After that i cant relink EDL to MEdia.
What should i do?
Thank you
Jeabby
The Media Composer doesn't read the timecode on a QuickTime File. Import the QuickTime files into MetaCheater and save an ALE file. Import that ALE file into a bin and Batch Import the QuickTime files, they will now have the metadata. http://www.staticpictures.com/
Hi Bob,
Actually, If you modified reel number for quicktime file so avid can read it.
cheers,
We shot some footage using a Panasonic HVX200 at 720p/59.94, I loaded the footage into my Avid via Import P2/ Clips to bin, then consolodated the media to my Unity storage system.
When we play it back in 720p/59.94 project we can see it in the Avid preview monitor but we can't see it on any external HD monitors unless we set the timeline to a 50/50 quality setting. I'm completely new to the world of P2, does anyone know why this maybe?
You don't say, but I assume you have an Adrenaline. The Adrenaline can only play DNxHD in full quality. The Thin Raster DVCProHD or XDCAM HD will only play in draft and will need to be transcoded to DNxHD for a digital cut.
This is not the case for the DX Hardware.
Thanks for your help and your Quick reply BobRusso.
I am indeed using and Adrenaline, I'll be sure to post all my specs next time.
