We are getting ready to start a job that  needs to end up on HD cam at 23.98 1080p. We are shoting on Variacam, my questions is will it be  best to capture via firewire Native DVCpro HD and do my edit, output to DVCpro HD and dub to HDcam. Or capture DNxHd and output directly to HDCam.   If I wanted to capture DNXHD, does it pull the VFR flags from the HDSDI stream. I have done most of my HD edits in FCP, but really want to edit in Avid as I am more comfortable editing with it.  Unfortunately, I have zero HD experience in avid.

 Varicam flags are only supported over FireWire as native DVCPRO. You an always trnascode to 1080p 23.976 DNxHD of your choice after the fact if you want to edit at your mastering format.
