Hi,
Working in HDV, I'm getting playback dropouts, especially noticeable in the music. The HDV output process is not affected. Final output sound is fine, but it's really distracting hearing dropouts as I cut. When I select a lower video playback quality the problem lessens. When I disable video playback the problem goes away. I've tried increasing the ASIO/WDM buffer size without it helping. Has anyone else encountered/overcome this issue? Thanks.

sounds like a resourse problem, rather than a problem with your media. your specs look ok. does the media reside on external drive(s)? does the audio & video reside on the same HD?
is your audio sample rate varying by clip (in other words, is avid converting sample rates on the fly?), or is all the audio in the sequence the Project Sample Rate?
sorry no difinitive answers. just shot's in the dark.
good luck!

Hi Shane,
My media is on one dedicated drive (plus a 2nd for backup). Avid and the operating system are on a separate drive. As far as I'm aware all the audio is in the Project Sample Rate - I recall selecting that option when I import music & FX but I can't be 100% certain. Given the problem seems to be noticeable only when music is playing is it possible I've imported the music at a mismatched sample rate? I can easily re-import it. Any suggestions of what I should watch for?
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.
Charles
I just tested it more exhaustively. The problem arises with any steady state sound (an unbroken hum, ext), not just imported music. I'm getting subtle playback dropouts, slight high frequency transient clicks. Again, these don't find their way into the output.
Thanks,
