    Restart removes Avid Deck configurations

Mac 1.8 dual PPC G5, running Tiger 10.4.8, 3GB RAM
    Avid XpressPro 5.6.4

Everytime the mac is restarted the deck configurations are deleted.  How can I avoid this or is there a patch that will rectify this error?  Thanks.

Well, not a patch, per se, but a lot of software upgrades since then.

Can you, at least, upgrade to 1.8.4?

You can try running the Apple Disk Utility and repairing permissions. Also, try trashing your site settings (they may be corrupted) and recreating the deck configurations again.

Also try a new user to see if the problem happens there too.

If it doesn't, simply trashing the MCState file may help too.

What about saving the config as a site setting?

This Avid is relatively new to me so I don't want to start upgrading just yet.  That was the first thing that came to mind though.

Where is the MCState file located?  What does the file deal with?  I've already created a new user and it seem to happen with the new user selected.

5.6.4 is an old software but I don't recall this as being a problem associated with it.

Sounds more like a corruption in the settings somewhere.

Re: Restart removes Avid Deck configurations

MCState is the repository of all the info for the way your system was setup the last time you exited it. A corruption in these files can cause this.

You'll find one inside your user file and one inside the setting folder inside the application.

I usually just do a search in spotlight and trash whatever comes up. The Avid will rebuild the files the next time you launch

Re: Restart removes Avid Deck configurations

I tried deleting the MCstate file, there were about 8 and I deleted them all.  The deck configuration was properly setup.  I restarted the Mac and when I got back into Avid the capture tool stated there was no deck.  I went back into deck configuration and tried to setup a deck and it claims that there is no deck (when there definitely is a deck connected).

The only way around this is by clearing the deck configurations completely..even the name. Then restarting the Mac again and then inputting the deck configuration again.  After that the deck will be recognized.  Its really annoying when the Mac crashes completely and I have to restart the computer twice to gain back deck configurations

Ok, next try trashing the site settings file. Sometimes that will cure these weird issues too.

Thanks, deleting the settings file seems to have cleared everything up.  I've restarted the Mac two times and the deck is recognized both times.
