    Serial Port. Deck Control

    Hey all,
Iam having some problems trying to get Deck Control.
-I have everything connected from the Deck to my Deck Control Switcher.
-Out from the Switcher, I have a 9pin to Serial wire.
-The Serial part is being plugged into a USB/SERIAL converter.
-The USB is being plugged into the Front of the Computer.

    Iam running:

    AXP 5.8.0
    SDI Mojo
    Dual 2.7 Ghz PowerPC G5
    10.4.11
    4 GB DDR SDRAM

Does anyone have issues with control?

    thanx

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

Not if you connect it correctly.

    A couple of questions...

    1. Is your USB to serial a KEYSPAN adapter? It must be.

    2. What type of switcher are you using? You need to remove it from the chain until you get this working to eliminate it as a suspect.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

    -I have a Keyspan Adapter.

    -I removed the switcher.

    I get an error message.

    For my deck config,
I Add Channel, Direct on Keyserial1
    Then I add the deck.

The error message coming up says:

The Port "KeySerial1" is busy and cannot be used for deck control.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

this is usually caused by having more than one channel configured to use that port in your deck config settings.

Do you have more than one channel? If so, delete all but one.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

thats the thing, nothing else is being used by that serial port.
Even when I switch the Channel to USA28Xb2P1.1, it still says its in use by another application.

Does the USB port have to be isloated just for the Serial Port?

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

    Ok, let's do this...

    1. Create a new project and a new user

    2. Unplug any other USB devices (Except the mouse and keyboard, obviously)

    3. Create a new channel in the deck config settings choosing the correct port and channel for your keyspan adapter.

    Does THAT work?

Also, go into your System Preferences and see if the Keyspan port is assigned as a Network port. If it is, delete it.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

How do you mean Howard? Mine are all assigned as network ports and no problems.

When I delete the channels from the Network Port assignments, the Avid no longer sees the Keyspan at all.

    KeySerial
    Built-in Ethernet
    etc...

It says that the Ports are not on..!??!

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

Ok, that's what I was talking about. If the ports are disabled in the Network tab, the AVid will see them as in use.

So, The way I got around this recently was to download the drivers from Keyspan.com and re-install them.

    See if that might help.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

I thought you said that it was telling you that before?

Are the ports showing up in the network System Prefs now?

    USA28Xb2P1
    USA28Xb2P2
are showing up in Net Pref.

The KeySerial is not highlighted nor can it be clicked.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

I am following this thread closely as I  have a problem with serial control. At first not seeing the port but I re-installed keyspan software and deck config found the port but now the digitizing process from the deck often stops as if  the connection was lost or very weak and I sometimes get the message that there was a break in the TC.
I am not clear on what setting I should have in my network configurations. They show up as 2 - USA28X... ports and one "KeyspanSerial"but are unchecked. Any ideas? Could our problem be related?

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

    Could be Busted.

This happened to me one time on one of my rental systems. Deleting the ports from the network config control panel and reloading the drivers solved it for me.

Now, as to the system dropping your 422 control, whenever that's happened, we've found to be either a bad cable or bad kesypan. Could that be possible? Can you swap out the Keyspan to check?
