Yup, I'm getting 16 bit crashes in AE after installing new Avid codecs too.
Red, shmed. This was shot with a cell phone: http://vimeo.com/1649221 Edited in Avid.
Sean, thanks for confirming this.
What do we do now??
Anyone else?
I seem to be able to convert all non-Avid DNxHD files to 16 bit and 32 bit in After Effects CS3. But cannot convert the DNxHD files to 16 or 32 without getting a crash in After Effects. This problem seems to coincide with upgrading to the new Avid codecs.
I reverted to After Effects 7.0, and the issue with the DNxHD/Avid QuickTimes went away.
So there seems to be a conflict with the new DNxHD 1.8 codecs and After Effects CS3 that causes direct a direct crash.
Sorry about the delay...I will forward this to Avid engineering ASAP.
Some PC users have experienced problems not just with DNxHD codecs but all QT codecs crashing any app that accesses them. For these users a common fix is the following Answer on the KB.

Give that a shot and let us know if it fixed the problem.
Hi,
I switched Quicktime into Safe Mode and, unfortunately, it did not fix it. AE CS3 still crashes in 16 and 32-bit modes with the new DNxHD 1.8 codecs.
ThanksLucas
Do the DNxHD 1.6 LE codecs have the same problem? I noticed that the 1.6 codecs were not available so I created an answer and attached the 1.6 LE installers.
