    Canon 24F Support

Does Avid have plans to add support for Canon's 24F format?

Being that Canon's XH-A1, XH-G1 and XL-H1 have all proved incredibly popular, why is this format not supported? Sony Vegas Pro and Apple's Final Cut Pro both support 24F.

    Thank you.

    Hi Avid:

I would also like to add my request for this feature. I own a Canon XL H1 and I would like to shoot and capture and edit natively in 24F. Smile

Upgraded to Media Composer from Avid Xpress Pro and now at MC 3.0.5, but had to roll back to 3.0.0. Also added Avid Studio Toolkit 5.7 running on.....HP... [view my complete system specs]

The thing is don't peak too early in life. Currently at MC 3.0

You've got my support for this.

Avid was supposedly working on support for this like 2 years ago, according to a former Avid engineer I know.  Apparently they've bailed on it?  It's not Avid's fault...it's Canon's.  They never should have created such a stupid format in the first place.  I've had 3 different Canon reps tell me that Canon didn't know how to do true progressive media on the XL-H1, so they decided to make their own format, rather than do the R&D necessary.  If that's true, that's such an embarassment for Canon that it's sickening.

Hopefully Avid will spend the R&D time/money to create native RT support for the stupid 24F/30F formats.

I think my memory sucks, but I forget.

    Hopefully you jest!!!

A manufacturer develops a stupid format to gain a market share, releasing a cheaper product as they have not had to do proper R&D, and Avid should waste decent R&D funds on bailing them out.

The camera is more expensive than Avid.... They con far more people into buying it (because its cheap) than there are Avid owners. Make them do their own R&D or atleast apologise to the customers they conned.

The problem with the Canon format is that I don't see any deck supporting (correct me if I am wrong). Sony does HDV 1080/24p but at least has the M35 (but with no RS-422 Hmm ).

There is no news and there will not be until Avid makes an announcement. I will say that every format out there goes into the system for possible inclusion. When and if that happens is anyones guess. Speculating about it though is against the form TOS.
