I've just installed avid free dv 1.6 on my laptop (HP 6500 dv - 2x2ghz - 2g ram - windows vista premium- nvidia geforce 8400M GS - realtek soundcard).
I had no install problem, apart from the "switch to xp pro to run this program" compatibility procedure, but everythig is ok, shooting dv rushes as well under vista.
The problem appears when I want to "play" the video, either in the composer or on the timeline : the image freezes, the sound is ok but the image is freezed, although I can edit it.
I can only see it by moving the timeline freehandly, "play" just freezes the video.
I reinstalled my graphic card but the result is the same and it seems to me the problem comes from the card not well configured to follow avid.
Does anyone have an idea about what to do (apart from removing vista or my graphic card from the computer) ?
Thanks
Hi,
Lots of people have similar problems with video freezing, and while most of them seem to be solved by getting the right video card drivers installed, most of them are running XP, so if this is a Vista compatibility problem, then video card drivers may not be of any help to you.
Here are the results of a forum search for "video freeze". Hopefully something in there will help you.
good luck,
Carl

The problem is your graphics card driver. I have an NVidia Q 1400. The same things happens to me if I use the latest "unsupported" driver but if I use an old "XP" driver all works ok.
