Burning to BLU-RAY disc - problems

Im trying to burn my first blu-ray disc project.  I have already burned SD projects successfully.

When I choose burn disc, after building menus, and transcoding audio, I get this error message:

"BDMV Export COM could not be initialized"

I am using a Panasonic 2x Blu-ray burner, and trying to burn the project to a Panasonic 50GB BD-R dual layer disc - Please help!

Re: Burning to BLU-RAY disc - problems

Yes indeed it is Avid DVD by Sonic 5.7  I have been trying to make this blu-ray disc now for over a week, about 10 or more tries, everytime same error message.

Unfortunately I didn't get a case number, the guy got me off the phone so quick with promises he would call me back before his shift ended with the solution...of course he never did...

    Here's the project info:

A mixture of DVCPRO HD, and HDV edited in a DVCPRO HD timeline.

All video was mixed down, so that I could export a quicktime reference - (HDV was causing a problem and would not export a reference until I did a video mixdown.)

Quicktime Reference was then Taken to Sorenson 4.3 and I chose Bluray underneath the mpeg 2 settings.

I set the data rate to 24000 KBPS, Bottom field first, 29.97, interlaced
No audio, with a .mpv file extension.

The release notes say that is an acceptable file, however, Avid DVD still does transcoding to it.

I updated my transcoding settings in Avid DVD so that they are the same as my source material.

I fully authored the DVD using a template, I was planning on using a BD-R dual layer 50GB, but I now see only 25GB single layer is currently an option to burn at this time.

I choose burn disc and it begins the process:
    1. Building menus
    2.Transcoding Video
    3.Importing Video
    4. Transcoding Audio

Thats as far as it gets, and each attempt takes a good 5 hours or so, because it is a 2 hour high def documentary 1920x1080.

What i have found so far:

I read the notes and noticed I needed 75GB of free space on my "Temp drive" to burn a blu-ray.  I noticed I only had 40GB, so I thought that was the problem.  I made available 100GB of free space on my C drive, where Avid currently has the Temp folder navigated too.  When I tried to burn, I still get the same error.

I thought maybe the problem was that I was trying to burn to a 25GB project to a DL 50GB blu-ray disc, so I went and bought some 25GB discs, but I still have the same error.

At this point I'm not sure what to do next.  The Blu-ray burner is a Panasonic 2x, farily new.  Its a secondary drive in addition to a sony DVD burner.  The blu-ray has successfully burned nemerous SD projects which were also authored in Avid DVD by Sonic.

I wish Avid new what there Error Messages mean, again, the error message is:

"BDMV Export COM could not be initialized"

Re: Burning to BLU-RAY disc - problems

I have the same error message "BDMV Export COM could not be initialized" when trying to output for Blu-ray.  The message shows up after AVID DVD by Sonic is done transcoding the video and audio file.  It shows up no matter if I am trying to make a Disc Image or if trying to burn a Blu-ray disc.  It doesn't matter if I have a long file or a short file, one file or a whole menu full of files... the message is always the same.  The message only shows up when trying to make a Blu-ray, I have no problem making standard DVD.  I can only find a very few references to this problem on the web, and none of them have the answer to the problem posted.  The only suggestions that I can derive from the other posts is that I should reinstall the application, and also make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework v 1.1 is installed.  I have done that and still get the error message.  We used to be able to make Blu-ray discs, but since our video card died and we had to do a complete restore back to the original ghost discs of the system setup and re-install everything I can't get past this error message for Blu-ray, but everything else in the system is fine.  My profile has a complete system listing for our Avid.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
