    xl2 24p pulldown and avid

    So I shot in 24p and used the 2:3 pulldown..i am attempting to digitize my footage and the error I am recieving is that i can't import video and audio unless the audio sample pulldown is selected but it then tells me its not supported when I attempt to select it..

    can someone please instruction on how to go around this and can someone please tell me my footage isn't lost...

    What version of Media Composer?  Adrenaline or software only?  What type of project?

    and i created the project as a 24p project...(should i of created it as a 30i?)

    lawd..

    like that confused me more...

    what im getting from that is that seeing i shot in 24p (standard, 2:3 pulldown) i will have to create a 23.97 project and have to use the camera to capture my footage..

    i will try and see...but if anyone have a simpilar breakdown for a novice it would be great..

    The point of 2:3 pulldown is that you can edit 24p in a 29.97 project, so that could well explain why you're having problems in a 24p project.

    Uhm.....not really. The point of pulldown is to have 24p sources live in a 29.97 environment.

    And the whole idea of a 24p / 23.98p NTSC project is that one can remove that pulldown. Remember Film Composer?

    And if you edit 24p in 29.97 and output back to 24p are they still "living" in 29.97? Seems like a semantic point. Perhaps I'm not fully gasping the distinction you're trying to make.

    If you edit 24p footage in 29.97 you are bound to break the pulldown cadence, so it will not be as easy to remove that pulldown, if you would ever need to end up with a true 24p master (say for filmout, international delivery or an HD master).

    The whole idea about 23/24p projects is that you are able to cut 23/24p natively, and then (if necessary) add the pulldown upon playout. It has worked that way for decades, and it is generally a very wise workflow to choose. 24fps film is transferred - with pulldown to 29.97 video. Those tapes are captured in a 24p project, removing the pulldown during capture, enabling you to cut 24p natively. Pulldown is only added on the NTSC outputs.

    So in that sense 3:2 pulldown is not "meant" for editing 24p footage in a 29.97 environment, but that pulldown is meant for NTSC distribution. It's not a semantic distinction, it is a theoretical one.
