Re: The "No audio when digitizing" and the "DSR-11 no audio on external input" posts

I have the same issue with 5.7.2 on a non-qualified computer, however there are some interesting experiences that can help to solve the problem.

Analogue source -> DSR-11 -> XP  5.7.2 = No audio at all (no signal on the meter)

Analogue source -> DSR-11 -> other non-qualified system with XP 5.1.7 = working fine, audio is captured

Analogue source -> Canopus ADVC110 -> XP 5.7.2 = working fine, audio is captured

(of course the other system also works with the advc110)

I hope this may help Smile

Using an approved Dell 390 with a DSR-11 I had the same problem.  Installing a Sound Blaster Audigy fixed it for me.  The sound is back.

    Sorry Daryl,

This is a user to user board.  The best we can do is support each other to make our systems work.  Marianna has suggested earlier in this thread to email her directly if you have this problem.  Have you tried that yet?

    Hi Chris

I know that in this forum user help each other still Avid support monitor this forum and as you have told me they also write uploads as for bug fix
so this is the right place to post this message, as the users can help and also you can get a formal answer from Avid support.

As for what you have ask , no i didn't email Marianna yet as i have waited to a release that will fix this problem and this is way i didn't purchase yet the upgrade to 5.7.2 i now work with 5.5 as this is the only version that work fine for me.

and i want to move to 5.7.2 and this bug is the only thing that stop me from upgrade and if you will go back in this discussion you will see that Avid told me that this will be fixed in the next release or one after now we are after 2 release from that time and still there is no fix this is way i am angry.

in any case thanks for your help.

    Yours

    Tamir

Which is why Marianna asked for specs information to help Avid resolve the problem.  She does work for Avid and that is the avenue to use if you want a true solution and not a work around.  Take the time to get all of your system specs together, email her the information, and give the company a chance to find a solution.  Or just buy a Sound Blaster Audigy to fix it for now.

Re: The "No audio when digitizing" and the "DSR-11 no audio on external input" posts

I didn't give the system specs because none of the two computers is qualified to run Avid. That's why I didn't complain about this bug at all - I use the workarounds and wait for it to be fixed. (I use sound blaster in the first - 5.7.2, not capturing - computer and the integrated sound card in the 2nd - 5.1.7, capturing - one, so adding an audigy is not a "workaround" for every situation.)

I only wanted to show the differencies that make a system work while another fails. There must be a difference in the way that decks and transcoders use the firewire channel and there is also a difference between the older and the recent versions of avid. If someone knows the details of these differencies and "comb" them together maybe it finally gives a solution. I hope so.

Wink [;)] Re: The "No audio when digitizing" and the "DSR-11 no audio on external input" posts

    Hi Chris

Marianna don't need my specs as this bug happed in all of Avid approved systems and this is way I have purchase 2 of them so that in case of bug they will not be able to tell me sorry but you don't have an approved systems and this is way we can't help you.

so for that I have purchase an Hp Xw8200 dual cpu of 3.8Mhz with 4 gig of ram 2 Sata disk of 500Gb, and NVIDIA approved 1400 , as this system are the approved one.
to this is have a DSR-11 that are connected by FW and I also use it as my converter from analog to digital for Hi8 and VHS tape that I need to get in to the system and also as a converter to see an video on an external monitor.

Also can you say what is the model of your Audigy sound card as Creative has a few model by the name Audigy and if I will buy one I need to know which to buy so that it will work.

So if you can send me a link to the model that you have purchase it will be wonderful.
As it looks to me that if I will wait for Avid to fix it
    I will wait forever

Re: The "No audio when digitizing" and the "DSR-11 no audio on external input" posts

Are there any news about this bug?
I bought a new computer and moved from 5.2.4 to 5.6.4 and now I have the same problem.
With 2.5.4 there were no problems with capturing sound from analog sources.

I'm using Sony DCR-TRV740E PAL as a transcoder (yeah, I know it's an old piece of junk but it works fine as 8mm and VHS digitizer for me) and old Samsung PAL VHS tape machine (the same stuff I used before).

And also I wanted to ask another thing...
Because of this analog sound capturing problem, I tried to capture analog video with WinDV (small program that captures DV to AVI files) and then I just imported these captured AVIs in Avid.
The problem is that imported footage has sound out of sync, although when I play these AVIs (the same ones I import in Avid) in Windows Media Player, the sound is ok - no problems with sync.

I've done the same thing on my old computer in AXP 5.2.4. Avid didn't recognize my Panasonic camcorder, so I captured video from DV tapes with WinDV and imported videos in Avid - sync was ok.
And now on my new computer with 5.6.4 installed it gets problematic.
Any ideas how to make Avid to import DV-AVIs with sound in sync?

My PC specs (it's a DIY computer):
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 CPU
    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard
    3,5 Gb of RAM
WD 80Gb SATA2 HDD as a system drive
WD 500Gb SATA2 HDD as a storage drive
    LiteOn SATA DVD-RAM drive
Gigabyte GeForce 8500GT 256Mb VGA card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
    LiteOn FireWire400 card
WinXP Pro SP2. All updates installed
    QuickTime Player 7.3.1 installed
Avid Xpress Pro 5.6.4 (no Mojo)

    Thanks,
    Kri

Avid has reproduced the bug that keeps audio from passing through some transcoder devices like the DSR-11. It has been listed as a high priority bug fix and will, hopefully, be sorted out soon.

That means I'll have to buy newest version?
    I'm not willing that...

I'm asking that because I've never heard that Avid would make any patches to older versions that  would fix bugs. Only way how to fix them, is to get a newer version.
In my case It means I'll have to spend money for upgrading to 5.7 or newer... :(

And what about that AVI improting sound sync problem? It's very actual. I have a pile of VHS tapes to digitize...
If I can't get footage straight in Avid, I would be very happy, if I get it in by importing.

Bug fixes within versions are always free. You pay for Major updates. If you do not wish to update to the latest version, just go back to a version before this problem was introduced.

Wait a second.  Are you telling me that after years of frustration, all I need to do to solve this problem is buy a flippin 20 buck audio card?

I'm currently using a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi.  A lower and less expensive Creative SB card will fix this?
