    The new Studio is out.

Well the word is out on another thread anyway -- you guys are very savvy, btw. So I'm gonna go ahead with the following announcement (Don't shoot me Marianna) ;)

AK Jake and I can finally escape from our frustrations in not being able to talk about the new Studio release. I've been biting my lip so much it has become a gaping and bloody sore -- NOT a pretty sight.

HERE IT IS FOLKS! Come and get it.

You will be pleased to know that, as I have hinted many times, Studio has now reached parity with the current versions of Xpress Pro and Pro Tools. You can now take advantage of the very latest point releases of each program.

Note that the new Studio is shipping with the 002. This is simply because there has not been sufficient time for beta testing with the new 003 interface. I should also point out that there is not currently a tradeup program for the 002. BUT, there is one for the Mbox to the 003 (see the tradeup page link above for more info). If you go this route, I'm sure we would all be interested in getting feedback about your workflow with the new 003.

The latest Avid Xpress Pro v5.7 is NOT a free update, and must be either obtained through a support contract, or purchased via one of the options below. All Avid Xpress Pro v5.7 upgrades include support for Windows XP and Mac OS X on both PowerPC and Intel based Macs. All Avid Xpress Studio and Avid Studio Toolkit products are supported on Windows XP only.

Note that this release REQUIRES a dongle updater/versioner so if you are an online customer you will need to go back to avid.com and upgrade your registration.  http://www.avid.com/register/upgrade.asp    You will enter your name, system ID dongle ID etc. along with your product key and voila, you get the DBHelper for your dongle.

Dell Precision 650, 3.06 Ghz, 2 SCSI drives, 600 GB LaCie D2, 1.5 Mb Ram, Nvidia FX500 Suite 1. Avid Media Composer v3.0, Avid Studio Toolkit v 5.7... [view my complete system specs]
