    upgrading avid

hello, i have just completed upgrading to pro 4.6. but am having a couple of issues. first is there a way in avid to limit the medea on a drive? in other words can i set avid to stop writing to a drive when it's say, 80% full to prevent errors from a too full drive?

second, i installed new drives and reconfigured their locations, how do i relink the media? i followed avid help files with no luck. i choose the bin i want to relink then select>bin but relink is greyed out.

    thanks ,

    Re: upgrading avid

You can tell Avid to switch to the "least empty" drive when there is less than (some amount) of time remaining on the drive.  I believe it's in the "media creation" settings window.

If the new drives show up as a standard drive letter, you shouldn't need to relink the media as long as your OMFI MediaFiles directory is still properly set in the drive's root, the clips should just come back online.  Doublecheck that you've named your directories properly (OMFI MediaFiles) as they must be named exactly right for Avid to find them.

    Re: upgrading avid

thanks dave, guess i'll have to be more vigilant on checking my drives. the problem is i get busy editing and before i know it the drive is full then it's too late. would be nice if avid had a setting that would allow for limiting the amount of media a drive will accept before automatically making the switch to an empty drive.

    thanks again,

yeah i would like more then the 10 minute warning as well.. 10 minutes in 1:1 gives some room but in DV25 it's just a few gig. Anyway look at the capture tool and see how much is there. It's also a responsibilty of the user Smile [:)]
