Out of Sync 720/30 - GY-HD200 editing? (was viable 720/30-HD100?)

I have been around some time here, AvidProNet (for those who remember it) and I don't usually post issues.. but there is a first time for everyhting (actually 2nd, my first issue was FS4ProHD file issues - still being worked on).

Anywho, shooting with the JVC GY-HD100 - Recording 720/30 on tape, attempting to digitise using camera.  Serious audio sync issues (2-4 seconds).  I can transfer the footage to the FS4ProHD and file transfer, but a/v remains out of sync.  Playback on camera, all is well - sync is fine.

    Avid sees the camera (generic)..
    Video can be digitised..
No, I am not attempting to capture TC or use deck control..
The xw8000 and 8200 are fully spec'd and qualified..

Workflow - suggestions - comments - all are welcome.

    Re: Viable 720/30 - HD100 editing?

We use this set up for more than a year now without any major problems. The 5.6.X updates seem to be more unfriendly for the JVC than the 5.2.x one's. We still work fine. We meet problems with some corrupted frames that does not saw up during the editing but show up during the export to HDV device. Up to now we never used the camera as a spooler. We use the BRHD50. We capture OK, and we re-export to tape without problems. You have to follow the firmware updates from JVC, there is one that I forgot specially designed for Avid. For 30fr. there is no major problem. Better than FCP-definetely! Panos

I have been looking at the HD50 deck - although it is not listed as an approved device (or at least is not on the list.... yet).

Either way the problem should not exist and should be fixed.

    Re: Viable 720/30 - HD100 editing?

Kent, is this problem in Avid only? Meaning if you take the out of sync clip and transcode it to a quicktime or whate ever is it still out of sync? Trying to figure out if this goes wrong on ingest or in the play out proces in Avid...

    Re: Viable 720/30 - HD100 editing?

Honestly cannot say that I have attempted to export a clip to QT for playback outside Avid - and then reimport to see if that helps.  I will attempt that and get back to you.. however this is, definately, one step that should not happen - I should just digitise and begin editing.

But again, I will attempt the export to QT - play in QT (see if there is any difference) then, if the clip is in sync (don't see why it would be, but), reimport that clip back into Avid.

Exported to a quicktime clip and audio was still out of sync.  When re-imported into Avid, obviously, clip remained out of sync too.

    Re: Viable 720/30 - HD100 editing?

I re-post my problem as I got no answer yet..
The clips that we capture from the BRHD50 are in synch.
We have a problem since a couple of days getting these messages: Codec error 36. (If we export the clip from the timeline as HDV or QT movie the error dissapears, most of the time).
This is the second day of the problem. Second message: decomp stream get finished frame Corrupt Frame detected in Reel (number) frame (number) Error codec 36.
Yesterday we reistalled Avid (5,6,1) but the problem stays the same.
Our platform is: HP xw8200, Nvidia quadro 1400, 3 gigs Ram,1 ter raid for media, QT 7.1 and everything worked fine for a year now.
We updated the spooler a few weeks ago with the new firmware 1.0.1 from JVC for better compatibility with NLEs and especially with the new version of FCP that supports 25fr.
It worked for our previous 2 projects HDV 720p 30fr.
Now we are in real trouble!!! My bins are full with the same clips exported as HDV or QT movies. Why?
    Thanks-Panos

    Re: Viable 720/30 - HD100 editing?

we have the same issues and have had them since HDV was 1st introduced to Avid. It seems completely random on which tapes capture and which don't. Audio and video are in sync when just viewing thru capture tool, but once you hit the red button, it jumps out of sync and stutters.

We have 3 JVC 100 cameras and 3 decks, all experience the problem. We have the latest JVC firmware updates, both to the camera and the deck. The 4 Avids are various versions of 5.5 and 5.6
