thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

    Hello,

I have a problem with a thin green line which appears on top of my footage - in the composer window and in the exported quicktime.
    I saw that it's a bug on AMD-PC's but I'm running:

    Media Composer 2.6.2 on
    Powerbook G4, 1,5GHZ, 2GB Ram
Project is 24p PAL and Footage in DV25P 420 (shot on 16mm film)

The green line appears on the footage and also on blank titles...
Is it a bug ? Or can I change something in my settings ?

    thanks.

There was a green line issue in the 1.8.x versions.  Did you happen to bring your old 1.8.x user settings over to 2.x?  If so, delete em' and create fresh ones.

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

I have this exact same issue with my Xpress Pro v5.6.2 system which is cutting a film captured in MCA v2.1.8 to the DV25 codec. All new settings.

But I have just started another film on MCA v2.6.2, same DV25 codec, but do not have this green line anymore.

Maybe it is a media issue with the way it was captured on earlier versions?

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

My experience with the green line back in the 1.8.x days was that it was not embedded into the media, but was a bug in the software at that time... only visable in the source and composer windows.   Thus Mark's issue may be more a reflection of bringing over a project from an older MC system that was experiencing that issue.  It's quite possible that had he started a new project and dropped in the bins it would have been fine... hard to say for sure.

I still say it's an old settings issue... unless of course it isn't... Wink [;)]

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

Worth a try. I'll create a new project and drop a bin in and see what happens.

I just noticed that Bloersch project setup is identical to mine:

    PAL 24p
    DV25 media

Todd, did you only see this with progressive footage or interlaced too?

Also was this issue ever on the PC side? Perhaps an ATI card issue?

I rarely use progressive, so I only noticed it with interlaced.  Only a MAC user, so I can't speak to the PC side.  It happened to me with both ATI and Nvida cards FWIW.  For me, the issue went across two G5's, one with ATI and one with Nvidia.

Also... I rarely muse Dv25... this happened to me with 3-1, 2-1 and 1-1 footage.

OK. Well that kills the progressive + ATI theories :-)
I'll try the new project and get back.

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

    Thanx for the reply.

The green line should embedded into the media because it also appears in every exported Quicktime / Picture and that's the problem. I always have to crop everything.

I tried a new project with new user (deleted the old one) and just created a black title. Looks fine in the timeline but after I render it, the sweet green line appears.
It's also on the Fat-rushes when I open it in this new project with new user...

Well...I'm afraid we are talking about different issues then.  The issue I had was strictly a playback issue in the source and composer windows.  Did not translate to digicuts, exports or even when playback was paused.

I see what you see Bloersch.

For the record creating a new project and settings made zero difference. As Bloersch says, this is in the media, despite what I thought about graphics overlays etc. Exports have it, and it shows in the Composer when.

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

Looking back over past forum posts, the green line at the top of the image has almost entirely been PAL DV codec related.

This is why I don't think our US friends are going to see it.

Re: thin green line in composer / exported quicktime

I suddenly had this today with a MCA 2.6.3, PAL 24p project, DV25 media. Just before I did the export I had accidentally clicked the Playback Quality icon, switching it to Draft mode. I had put it back to Green/Green mode straight away, but after the export, I had the green line at the top.

So I restarted MCA. I have Green/Green (full quality) mode on by default so it started in this mode as it always does. Made another export from the exact same sequence and it was fine this time.

Toggle the video quality back through Yellow/Yellow , Yellow/Green and back to Green/Green - then make another export and it has the green line issue again.

I think the reason I used to see this all the time before was because I did not have Green/Green mode on by default - in my Xpress Pro setup this wasn't previously possible without a Mojo attached I think anyway - it is since 5.5 though.

The answer to this bug for now is to start your app with Green/Green mode saved as part of your default Toolset.
