Any word on this bug? It's been quite awhile and lots of releases since this bug was found. It is very annonying... and since avid broke the feature it would be nice if they could fix it again! Please help.

DaveS:Just curious, did you try actually recording to a piece of dv tape while capturing? I had a similar situation where I had to actually physically record to a piece of tape before the full signal would make it through into AXP.
This is indeed the workaround that has been used successfully by many other users looping through a DV deck to capture analog material via FW. Roll record on the DV deck while you capture and your audio will come through.
Yes, it is a bug and yes, it has been there for quite some time, but at least this way you can capture and get on with the work at hand.

Realize this thread is just about dead but I seem to be having the exact same problem with MC 3.0 on an Intel Mac Pro running 10.5.
There really is a DA-MAX+ in this room but it passes fine to a DSR-11 and a Final Cut System but I only get video to the Avid.
Anyone still experiencing this issue of the fix to it?
Dino, I don't understand. The explanation of this problem and the fix are all in this thread. Did you have a different question?

The only fix I found in the thread is to be in record on a deck. I'm not looping through a deck but am passing the output of a UVW-1800 through a DA-MAX+ video to DV converter. Deck control is via a keyspan adapter. If there is an actual fix, I seem to have missed it.
There is no fix, just a workaround. Don't know how you would make this work through the converter.
So then, just for the sake of clarity, the Avid is somehow passing judgement on my DV stream and choosing to reject part of it while being fully accepting of other DV streams?
I apologize for any bitterness on my part and do appreciate the feedback I get. Thank you.
From my experience, it seems to be a timecode issue. This is why you have to pass it through a deck and be rolling tape: the Avid wants to see timecode (whether it is actually capturing that timecode or not). I too am using a DA-MAX+ (with Xpress Pro) and have had issues. However, I have only had problems with my MacBook Pro (Intel) and not with my G4 tower; I can capture video and audio together fine with just the DA-MAX+ on my G4 tower, so it has something to do with the software coding for the Intel version. If you can get timecode into the DA-MAX+ from your UVW-1800 in a format that MC will take, you might be in business; otherwise I've thought about trying to get a standalone TC generator and seeing if that will work. Likewise, I can capture everything fine in FCP so I know that all the information is passing...
gstrudler:...the Avid wants to see timecode (whether it is actually capturing that timecode or not).
If that's the case, you can try de-selecting timecode on the capture tool. That will make the system generate it's own internal time of day timecode. Then see if you can capture with audio without using a loop through.
Yeah, I've tried that, but for some reason it still doesn't work. The easy solution to me would be if you could capture video over FW and capture audio through the line-in at the same time. Presto, problem solved if you're only using 2-channel audio.
Dino: if you're using machine control with the UVW-1800, you could probably make two passes, one for the video over Firewire, and then make a second pass with the audio coming through the line-in. It's unfortunately a lot of work because then you've got to create a sequence and tie them in together, but it would work. Hmm, although I'm wondering now if you could mark the audio offline and re-capture just the audio into the clip... again a pain because you have to make two passes of everything, but a possibility.
You don't have to make a sequence. You can use the autosync function. Not at my Avid right now, but it should be in the clip menu.
So this particular system is set up with the deck control of the Beta deck (1800) over serial via a Keyspan adapter. I wonder if the timecode needs to be in the firewire stream to make the Avid Happy? I pretty sure the DA-MAX+ is supposed to offer deck control (not my system). If I can get the right cable, I'll try capturing with control (and timecode) over firewire and report back my results.
And just to clarify, this setup is MC 3.0 on a new dual quad Mac Pro running 10.5
