Idea [I] INFORMATION POSTING No 7: Identifying Liquid Chrome from Liquid ChromeHD

    Locked Reply Contact

Here is another frequently asked question which I often receive:

TOPIC: Identifying a 'Pinnacle Liquid Chrome' system from an 'Avid Liquid ChromeHD' system

    PROBLEM:
How do you distinguish a 'Pinnacle Liquid Chrome' system from an 'Avid Liquid ChromeHD' system?

    INTRODUCTION:
There were primarily three Targa series cards released originally by Pinnacle Systems:

    1. Targa 3000 card for PC
    2. Targa CineWave card (for use with the Mac)
    3. In 2005 Pinnacle/ Avid also released a PC version of the CineWave card for use with the Liquid editing software.

This knowledge posting describes how to distinguish a ‘Targa 3000 card for PC’ from a ‘PC version of the CineWave card’. This allows one to quickly distiguish a Pinnacle Chrome system from an Avid Liquid ChromeHD system.

    RESOLUTION:
To distinguish a 'Pinnacle Liquid Chrome' system from an 'Avid Liquid ChromeHD' proceed as follows:

    1.   'Pinnacle Liquid Chrome' system:

          - Uses Liquid version 5 and 5.6, 5.61 software

          - Uses a Targa 3000 card

          - The Targa 3000 card is recognisable because on the back it has only one Digital Tether connection for the SD BOB.

    2.   'Avid Liquid ChromeHD' system:

          - Uses Liquid version 6, 7.1 and 7.2 software

          - Uses a PC version of the  CineWave card

          - The CineWave card is recognisable because on the back it has two Digital Tether connections for connection of up to two BOB's. One connection is for the SD BOB and the second is for the HD BOB.

NOTE:  Under no circumstances should users attempt to use a Mac version CineWave card in a PC. Likewise, a PC version CineWave should not be used in a Mac system.

DISCLAMER: This information (and the other Information/Knowledge postings on this Avid Liquid Chrome HD Webboard) are the opinion of Dean Athan and not official Avid documents.
