Idea [I] INFO. POSTING NO. 2 - TWO APPROACHES TO LIQUID CHROME HD DOWNSCALING

    Locked Contact

(Transferred from the legacy Pinnacle Liquid ChromeHD webboard)

TWO APPROACHES TO LIQUID CHROME HD DOWNSCALING:

Regarding downconverts, from HD ---- > SD users need to know there is a difference in Liquid ChromeHD between:
    1. Hardware scaling
    2. Liquid software scaling

In other words, if you leave your timeline in HD (without scaling or downconverting), the SDI SD output you get is scaled by the hardware - this is better than the software scale you get when you change the properties of the timeline to SD.
To do the hardware downscaling please also check the settings in the Control Panel->Site->Chrome HD Calibration Controls-> Standard Tab, you can set the output for SD to either 4:3 or 16:9 (note normally for HD it should be scaled down to SD in 16:9 format).

With the current Liquid Chrome 6.1 version if you are doing Liquid software downscale to SD; it’s recommended that you set the render to YUV for the best results.

The important point to note is that hardware downconversion quality from HD ----- > SD is currently superior to software downconversion.
