iMac 2019 with T-Tap not working

    Hi

Just bought the newest iMac and installed til 2019.11 MC and AJA 15.5 control center to get the T-Tap working.

But it cant play picture on external monitor in realtime. Red line in timeline indicating some serious CPU use.

When turning of T-Tap, everyhing works smooth.

Have an iMac 2018 with exact same OS and versions of AJA firmware and MC. It runs like a dream.

    Any other with this issue?

The T-Tap is Thunderbolt2 isn't the new iMac Thunderbolt 3?

Correct. I use Apples 3 to2 thunderbolt adaptor to convert.

Same as with the 2018 iMac. No problem there.

    Problem solved.
Rolled MC back to 2019.9, and everything runs smooth again.

    Problem unfortunately not solved.
Still have video dropping frames, and red dots under timeline indicating cpu overload !!

All tested project are in low DNxHD36 resolution.

Tried with and without Aja T-TAP connected. Same problem.

We are talking newest iMac with 40 gigs of RAM. What is happening?

Not sure I understand. Earlier you said with T-tap off it was fine but not with it disconnected?

If you remove the T-Tap and uninstall the AJA software and run MC in software only mode is it all ok?

The install the AJA drivers but no T-Tap installed? How does that behave?

I woud definately check the driver as they have updated it quite a few times to support MC and T-Tap

    Hi

    Sorry for late response.

When rolling back to MC2019.9 everything seemed ok, but it wasn´t. Still dropping frames.

    Uninstalled AJA and MC.

Installed latest software for AJA-T-TAP (15.5.1) and newest MC 2019.11.

Still dropping frames. When disabeling AJA box from inside Avid, everything runs smooth.

Strange when all is ok on older Imac 2017 with exact same setup.

Re: iMac 2019 with T-Tap not working

    T-Tap firmware up to date?

    Anything taking cpu power away?

    Anything reducing the TB3 bandwidth?

Shouldn't make a difference (afaik both ports are on one bus), but for voodoo's sake: did you try the other TB3-port?

Wow... changing TB3 port was the trick !! THANKS !!

I don´t know where to find the latest firmware. The version I have is 2018/05/16

When downloading from AJA, there is only software in the package.

    :O

On one hand I hope that it really (=permanently) solves your problem. On the other hand I am wondering, what that means for the other port? :/

I think the only way to update the firmware is via the control panel. But, according to what I see here, 2018/05/16 is the latest already.

When you run the AJA software it will prompt you to update the firmware if there is an update.

Basically that software driver expects you to have its firmware.

Glad the TH port solved the issue. It was my initial thought as to the issue.

    Hi again

This is strange. Now when I open the Avid project, I have the same issue.

Quitting Avid, unplugging the AJA TB3 cable and plugging it in again, makes it work ????

Re: iMac 2019 with T-Tap not working

I am seeing this with Premier as well.

Things worked well with older iMacs with TB2 ports. Got new 2019 iMacs with TB3 ports and need to use the TB adapter. No version of AJA software solves the problem. Unplugging and reconnecting fixes the problem for awhile. Sometimes hours, sometimes days, sometimes minutes.

Powered AJA devices (IO XT, IO 4K,) work fine with the same software.

I am speculating that the TB adapter does not pass enough power to relialably allow the T-Tap to work. It also could be the TB3 ports on the iMac don't provide sufficient power as iMac Pros seem to work correctly with T-Taps and TB adapters.
