Uhm this is kind of a big deal.

And supposedly, Pro Apps (including Quicktime X?) will support DNx natively.

Very interesting, and welcome.  Will this play out as a merger or a fight to the death?  (Oops -- no speculating.)

That has to be the understatement of at least the decade and possibly the century, Dom.  I wonder how this affects the long-term prospects of the DNx line?

Still good since the codec is available freely and does not require new coding or licensing on the Windows platform. While ProRes is pretty popular, it doesn’t have a monopoly in production or post. And QT 7 is dead and a security risk on the Windows platform with no official replacement (yet?).

Re: MC + ProRes + Windows announcement

There may be some advantages to DNx over ProRes that are not obvious.

I have been doing research on ProRes 4444 RGB for a project.  My research is telling me that, in fact, all ProRes is based on YCC.  So while RGB can be a source for ProRes 4444, it is stored as YCC.  Now, I am still in the learning phase on this.  But it seems that DNx RGB is truly RGB.  How important this is is not clear to me yet.

This could be an important point for some users.  But maybe not.  Some clients are VERY picky.

Re: MC + ProRes + Windows announcement

Any news when this will come?

Is it only going to be implemented for MC 2019.x or 2018.12 as well?
