    Workflow for H265/HEVC

An client has some drone footage H265/HEVC which is 4K shot at 25fps.

The current workflow is to link in Resolve Studio and transcode.

I read to change the project format to 4K but that does not work for me.

Is there a way to link in Media Composer 2018.12?

I did read this about Cannon ( http://community.avid.com/forums/t/186499.aspx ) but that does not work for this footage

    Hey,

Last I heard discussing with Avid, was that H.265 support was largely being ignored for now whilst they developed other functionality within MC (Netflix IMF file support etc).

So far, I've either rewrapped using FFMPEG or Media Encoder

Frustrating, (XAVC Part II) It’d be preferable not to have to subscribe to Adobe CS to use Avid, or am I missing something here?

As of right now, the only AMA plugin (paid version) that you can try is MediaReactor Lite from Drastic.TV. There is a trial version to test it first. This is the only one reported to allow for h.265 (HEVC) import/link. I've not tried it myself, so I can't speak to whether or not it works with the current versions of MC.

If you don't want to pay for something from Adobe or elsewhere, you can also download ffmpeg (free) and use that to transcode the video and audio. The following command will work:

    ffmpeg -i xxxxx.mp4 -bsf:v h264_mp4toannexb -c:a copy -vcodec libx264 yyyyy.mp4

where xxxx,mp4 is the input file and yyyyy.mp4 is the output file. Note that the input file doesn't have to be an mp4 file; any valid HEVC encoded file will work. If you don't need the audio, you can ommit the "-c:a copy" from the command.
