Hi all-
I've seen this topic elsewhere but the thread goes off the rails. Is there a way to select clips (either vertically or with a lasso), and then group/link those clips together?
I have a multicam (in principle), but there is so much finite editing that I prefer to be able to see the timeline.
Any thoughts on the equivalent of a "G" on Premiere (groups tracks)...
thanks!
Chapman
I suggest you take a look at this recent webinar on the new Multicam features in 2018.12

Thanks, that would help if I could go backwards, but I've already edited a bunch of this stuff with three tracks.
Is there no way to just magnetically link events together at the editor's discrection?
That seems like a very simple thing.
Additionally, our broadcast group doesn't have the latest version of AMC, as they are afraid of unwanted bugs during upgrades, so we are a few years behind on the versions.
I love AVID's management of large libraries of footage, and online editing. There are some truly great features of working in a giant pipeline. But the interface is getting SO FAR BEHIND modern NLE's that I feel like I'm using a blackberry in the age of iPhone X.

We’re here to help, so please find or post a link to the Premiere feature you enjoy ... I have no idea what “magnetic” is referring to. Avid can do many surprising things. Link the feature, if you please.

The way that Premiere works, you can group clips (I called it magnetically). I'm by no means a Premiere fan, but this function is extremely helpful and intuitive.
When I "group" clips in AVID it wants to create one single clip. I just want to take footage that I have synced, or maybe even unrelated clips that I have edited perfectly, and move them around in the timeline by selecting just one. thereby Grouping events on the timeline.

Thanks for your help, hopefully this is possible in AMC.
You’re right to ask for that, it seems really helpful.
i can only suggest using a unique LOCAL color on those clips, just to see them better as you move them. There are ways to make a sequence out of selected clips only, but I don’t see that helping you, except as a record. You could now make a MultiGroup from such a Sequence, but that’s not what PP does. Yes, that’s a good feature request.
Yes, though really what I have is stacked multicam footage (I couldn't create a multicam because of frame rate restrictions within a project), that's synced, and then I edited out the pauses, "ums" and "aaahs". So ideally I would be able to group these clips together (that have all the video synced).
Well, hopefully one day....
I wonder what will happen first, if AVID will modernize its interface, or if Adobe will build the backend that AVID has.*
If the latter happens, I would jettison all AVID stock as fast as possible.
In the meantime, they are the only thing that can handle true node based editing, so they've got that going for them... I hope it doesn't force the same complacency that eradicated so many titans of tech and industry.
*(or third option, something like Amazon cloud services makes the local server irrelevant).
You mentioned earlier Not using the latest MC version... you should know that mixed rate grouping is now possible. Read the release docs and keep cleaning up those ums & uhs
