Re: Convert OMF to MXF without transcoding

    Job ter Burg:

    DonE:
When you QT SAS export a sequence you will have a mov with all the different codecs used in your sequence.
No, it will choosed one, and re-encode whatever is not in that codec flavor.

You may have a method to export single codec but my exports are multi-codec. I first dug into this several years ago when a SAS export we delivered was rejected by the client for "more than one video codec". I just exported a QT SAS from a sequence with DV 50 (NTSC), filler, 2:1 (NTSC) using 2018.12. I Linked it back to the bin and the Console shows:

[QuickTime Plug-In] The movie contains video track with more than one video image description. [ Plugin Name = Avid Generic Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 3.4.1.285 ] processed G:\Miscellaneous\Don\multi codec.mov
G:\Miscellaneous\Don\multi codec.mov was redirected to and linked by [ Plugin Name = QuickTime Plug-In Avid Technology, Inc. Version = 1.9.3.10168 ]
    Reloading plugin: QTParser.acf
[01/22/19-15:28:49:774][tid:2680][ERROR  ] [QTFFContainerHandler] Multiple essence streams found on a single track, not supported.

Digging into the mov file it is possible to find the two Avid codecs in use.

OK, thx. My experience was that when exporting Same As Source, a sequence in DNxHD36 with just one (VFX) element in DNxHD175x, would cause the SaS export to take much longer, and end up being DNxHD175x.

I would expect to see the same multi-codecs for DNxHD with different bit rates. That's what my rejection was for.

    luca.mg:

Third time I write this: in the AAF export window select the option to consolidate to MXF.

There is nothing like "consolidate to MXF". However, transcoding through AAF to DV seems to be much faster than to other codecs, so in fact there is a good chance that it's only a rewrap (though the pop-up window always displays the same text). Seems to be a good option!

Re: Convert OMF to MXF without transcoding

    DonE:

I tried QT SAS export (601/709/legal) of my Source clip and then Import (sized for current, 601/709/legal, Field ordered for current) and in all three MC versions I got the "Fast Import..". Not sure why Pantau is unable to Fast Import.

I tried again: QT SAS export, "Use Avid Codecs" selcted/not selected, 601/709 levels, DV aspect ratio.

Import: sized for current, ordered for current, 601 SD, ignore alpha channel.

I managed to do the "fast import" now, so I guess my import settings were wrong at some point (sorry for that...).

Media is now MXF. It works the same with "Avid Codecs" selected or not.

Thanks to everybody for your help!

Double checked and there is indeed, but I'm on 2018.9, don't remember what is like on 8.x.

    DonE:

Export Quicktime Same as Source will rewrap your dv media as mov. You can then set your media creation settings for mxf dv and Avid will "fast import" (rewrap) your media to mxf. You would then have to relink to the new media.

For some reason I don't manage to relink to the (re)imported QT clips... Is there anything particular I should observe when relinking? What I do is to select the sequence together with the imported clips, and then "Clip-Relink", selecting "Relink selected Master clips".
