    Xeon CPU 142 Cores Maximum

what is the maximum number of CPU cores that Avid MC can use and befit from...and still achieve a measurable or noticeable increase in speed/performance as a result of the additional cores.  Some other apps can only use 6 cores and wil not have higher performance nor speed if you increased the cores beyond six.

Im considering dual Intel Xeon each with 72 cores totaling 144 cores.

is it a waste of the excess cores or does Avid MC have the ability to utilize all 144 cores to take full advantage of them all?

    Kind thanks,

    HG Domenech

yeah, this is overkill for media composer by several orders of magnitude, imo.

Where are you seeing 72 core or thread xeons? The only 72 core chips that I can find are Xeon Phi Co-processors, which require special application support.

A very good read by Chris Bove aka pixelmonkey.  Chris worked wth Avid engineers to gain insight into how Avid uses the computer

Re: Xeon CPU 142 Cores Maximum

Me personally, I wouldnt get xeon.  The clock speed is much lower than x299.  My 7940x was often hitting 100% on all cores when doing ama export and transcoding.

When you transcode and and export ama, Media Composer will use all cores very efficiently with hyperthreading.

Media Composer's render engine is not nearly as good (I think its due to old fx).  Only effects that use gpu (not that many from what i've seen) will use cpu cores efficiently and often times youll be around 30% cpu usage.

Today I would either get a 7980xe or wait for the upcoming x299 22 core.  And though I wouldnt reccomend it, maybe a ryzen 32 core just as a transcoding station and not much editing.
