What GPU is best for Avid? Nvidia or AMD, Cuda or OpenCL?

Coming from a Mac with Premiere Pro, I found the Nvidia web drivers to be very unstable and experienced constant kernel panics using my GTX 980, used a 1060 to experiment and experienced the same issues.

Now jumped to PC and I'm not really liking the performance of premiere on the PC side...

I wanted to experiment with Avid but it is unclear to me if Avid is optimised for Nvidia or AMD. I would not mind investing in an AMD card since it might mean I could use it in my Mac Pro as well since OSX works better with OpenCL.

    Thanks for any input!

    Karel.
