Re: Media Composer 2018.5 NOW AVAILABLE 10 May 2018

I just downloaded and installed 2018.5 along with the new AvidDX driver found in the utilities folder and I seem to be getting a very strange color bug.

https://imgur.com/a/wfMwiv6 Here is the image showing color issue...

Obviously the hand should not be blue. Any idea where this coming from?

I am also going to a 4k client monitor through the DeckLink Mini Monitor 4k and the color on there is perfect. Exported files also come out with normal colors.

Re: Media Composer 2018.5 NOW AVAILABLE 10 May 2018

    Roy....

There is a new feature in 2018.5

Hybrid Log Gamma Color Transformation Update - When doing an automatic conversion for color management, black and white points of the media are internally mapped to value 0 and 1.0 with all other levels falling in between. This is to make color space and transfer characteristics (the gamma) conversions easier.  In previous versions of Media Composer, when converting to Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), the white point of source media was mapped to 50% on the HLG scale. This was in accordance to ARIB-B67 specifications. With the development of BT.2100 specifications, the white point is now recommendedto be mapped at 75% on the HLG scale. The is also to be compatible with non-HDR broadcasting (Rec.709.)

With this release, by default when converting media to HLG, the mapping with be done in accordance to BT.2100. In the color transformations below, the Hybrid Log Gamma will use the 50% mapping. The Hybrid Log Gamma BT.2100 option uses the 75% mapping.

whats you level scalling set too?  Where id this clip originate?

Re: Media Composer 2018.5 NOW AVAILABLE 10 May 2018

Okay, that all went way over my head. Here’s the bottom line, we had 2018.1 and everything looked great with this same footage, I’m not sure what my level scalling is, and this clip along with the rest of the projects clips were shot on a Nikon d850. UHD 29.97 and transcoded to DNxHR HQX. What would be my workflow for correcting this as I can not edit to negative color video clips?

    Thanks.

FWIW I have the same issue with MC 2018.5 with W10 Pro 64 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 but not with W7 Pro 64 and NVIDIA quadro 2000. Updating the 1070's driver made no difference.  Reverting the W10 to MC 2018.4 gets rid of the issue.

That’s great to know, how can I go back to 2018.4?

I believe it is the same issue as above. The GTX 1070 and 1080 is common to each of us.  Output to client monitor via BM intensity Pro 4k here shows the correct colours.

Download the 2018.4 installer.  Uninstall 2018.5. Install 2018.4.  This process will not affect any projects or media.

Re: Media Composer 2018.5 NOW AVAILABLE 10 May 2018

I can confirm this with the 1080ti on windows 10, wrong (blue) colour in the composer window but fine on the blackmagic output.

Hopefully exporting will result in the correct colours too.

Many thanks for the "Heads Up" on this. Think I'll just stay on 2018.4 for a while longer.
