Force QT plug-in for spanned AVCHD clips ?

Continuing this MAC discussion (http://community.avid.com/forums/p/183780/854507.aspx#854507) :

I am also currently facing spanned XA25 AVCHD clips transcode problems: no matter what I do, I get an error with the AVCHD MVP Plug-in during transcode; since I generally get better results with the legacy QT plug-in (i.e. slower perf but much less transcode failures or corruption when transcoding e.g. H.264 MP4), I wonder how I can force linking spanned AVCHD clips with the QT plug-in instead of the default AVCHD MVP Plug-in ? I know how to do it for individual clips, but haven't found a way to choose the plug-in when the 'PRIVATE' folder (containing the AVCHD spanned clips) is selected in the Source Browser.

If AMA-linking of AVCHD spanned clips using QT is no longer an option, my next (cumbersome) workaround would be to concatenate the AVCHD clips using Canon's Data Import Utility then transcode to DNxHD with FFMBC then fast import, a workflow dating back from prehistorical times Sad....

Does your Canon program work well? Does it make a distinction between clips that should become stitched vs. others having non-continuous TC within the same Volune (Source chip)?

As you know, when AVID MC’s AMA linking is available, it does make those distinctions, right?

Yes it does; it even stitches together clips spanning cards (e.g. when relay recording was used -- the XA25 supports relay rec on 2 SD cards), and leaves alone isolated clips.

Back to my original post, apparently QT is NOT an option when AMA-linking AVCHD (spanned or not)....

I just have imported / joined the source clips using Canon's utility, creating a single long AVCHD file (.mts) which I have AMA-linked. I will now retry transcoding and see...crossing fingers

mmmhhh not good news [:'(]; I continue getting an error (Exception: AVCHD Reader:8000000c) a few minutes after initiating the transcode process (background or foreground) even with this new single large AVCHD (MTS) file with 2018.2 / Win7...the same file seems to transcode OK as I speak on my 'secondary' system (with 8.9.3 / Win10), albeit way much slower b/c of the system specs (MS Surface Pro). Time to  create a support case...
