    Subcap generator not importing.

    Hi all,

The subject is pretty self explanatory. I'm trying to "import caption data" but when I do it, nothing happens. I tried it with both .stl and .txt files to no avail. I noticed that the timecode on the subtitles started at 10:00:00:00 (long story I won't bore you with as to why it wasn't me who made the subtitles) so I changed the timecode on the timeline to match it, still nothing happens. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? I'm using 8.6.4 and the subtitles were created on Belle Nuit if that helps.

Alternatively, if anyone can recommend an easy way of combining a .mov file with any subtitle file to make a BluRay with hardcoded subs that would be great!

    Thanks,

    Adam

    Happy New year Jimmy.

This file must be a plain text file - .txt.

On a Windows system, use Notepad. Do not use Wordpad.

On a Macintosh system, select TextEdit > Preference > Plain Text.

Other files might introduce characters that your Avid editing application cannot recognize.

    Does that help?

    Re: Subcap generator not importing.

    Happy New year Marianna.

So as it turned out the subtitles were for whatever reason, set to 50fps. The file is set to 25fps.
Sadly that didn't entirely solve the problem as it still won't import the whole .txt file. It will however, import it if I reduce the number of subtitles? My limit seems to be 34 at a time. It seems to be the best option I have at the moment. Any ideas as to why that's the case?

The import process is very picky about the format and layout. I suspect you have an extra carriage return at the point where the import stops.

Look very carefully at exactly whats in the file after the last sucessful import.

Breaking down imports to groups is no bad thing anyway.

    Re: Subcap generator not importing.

After looking into the file more I found that the issues were all revolved around the timecode and the fact that it was set to 50fps, so I had to go over it with a fine toothcomb and adjust any timecode that went over the 25fps mark. Another thing I had to look out for was the timecode of some subtitles ending after the next one was scheduled to begin, which Avid also didn't like.

Seems odd that this wasn't discovered before, especially considering the original .srt file is almost 4 years old. But after a fun filled few hours I've managed to rectify everything and it's all in the timeline.

    Thanks everyone for the help!
