which new iMac for Media Composer?

Hi I need to purchase 4 more iMacs for additional edit suites asap.

We currently use 21" iMac 14,3s [3.1Ghz i7] with a Dell 1080p bin monitor and BM mini- monitor connected to a Toshiba client monitor. We use ISIS 5500 and most  work is HD or 2K ProRes or Proxy resolution, currently running MC8.6.1

I know I want 256 SSDs and 16GB RAM minimum.

I'm looking at  the 3.6GHz i7 processor and 4K retina model, with either Radeon Pro 550 [2GB VRAM ] or 560 [4GB VRAM].

Am iIbetter spending on more RAM [32GB] or more VRAM?

Is any of this approved by Avid yet?

    Thanks for any info/guidance

    Nigel

Re: which new iMac for Media Composer?

    Hi Marianna

I wanted to see if you could help me at all

I work as a freelance AVID editor and I am having difficulties with sluggishness on a documentary at present

My computer is an IMAC Retina 5K 27 inch 2017

Processor: 3.4 Ghz Intel Core i5

    Memory: 64 GB RAM

GraphicsL Radeon Pro 570 4096 MB

    I am using AMC 2018 12.6

I am working off two external hard drives

All footage has been transcoded to DNxHR LB (1920x1080)

Basically, I am at the stage where even to mark an in point takes 3 seconds after a quick spinning wheel of death

    Is this a processor problem?

If so, what would you receommend I buy and can somebody at a computer shop fit this for me

It seems to be getting more sluggish

Are there are any internal avid settings you recommend for best performance??

Any help would be amazing as I have a deadline on a job and the AVID is really playing up

    Many thanks for your help

    Paul

    Paul,

How are the hard drives connected?

DIY quad core I7-4790K, 32Gb, NVidia GTX 970 4GB, Win 10 Pro, MC(generally the latest or the one just before), MC 7.x [view my complete system specs]
