Change master clip's media from local to AMA?

Is it possible to take a master clip and point it to media on a server over AMA instead of it linking to it's original media on a local drive?

You should be able to select the clips you want to alter, and right-click to get the "Relink to File(s)" option, and point it to the new location.

Sometimes, different types of files aren't allowed with this operation, 'tho.  So a possible workaround would be to create a new bin and link to the server stuff, then toss (save a copy somewhere) the bin of the originally linked stuff.  Any sequences, once updated, should then be using the clips pointing to your server files.

Kinda all depends on the kind of clips you are using.

Were the original files linked via AMA and then transcoded?

Re: Change master clip's media from local to AMA?

The original files were actually in FCP7.  I'm using the old school method of Automatic Duck and MC AMA to move the sequence and files over to MC.  Issue is, after the transfer of sequence AAF, the offline master clips won't relink to the files over AMA no matter what combo of options I use in the relink dialog menu.  So now I'm wondering if you can unlink a clip from its media and point it to the media up on a server or somewhere else over AMA...

If the timecodes match, you can assign the same "TapeID" to the old and new clips, and then relink by TapeID and Timecode.

If timecodes don't match, you can assign Aux1 timecode to both clips in a way that they do match - then relink by TapeID and Aux1 TC.

Thanks usatraveler, are you assigning Aux1 tc through Modify Clip?

Yes, got it usatraveler!  I modified the start tc to match, and actually added a source tape name to match.  That's a great trick.  Thanks so much for everyone's help!
