Digital Cut 16 ch audio via HD-SDI to Cinedeck

Discovery has new specs requiring 16 channels of audio on master files.  I generally Digital Cut via HD-SDI to a Cinedeck virtual deck to create master files - the Cinedeck emulates a Sony SRW-5500 for RS-422 control.   When using Digital Cut tool, selecting the SRW-5500 in deck configuration limits HD-SDI output to 12 channels of audio (even with 16 ch enabled in audio project).  Every other deck option available only allows a max of 12 channels.  Is there a way to create a custom or generic deck that allows me to maintain RS-422 control and output 16 channels of audio via HD-SDI?

Sounds like Cinedeck & Avid need to talk, but can you get the cinedeck to interpret A12 as arm A12-16?

Or do 12 channels selected in Digital Cut tool mean that Avid does not output 13-16?

The EVS editrec works at 16 channels, I think? Although maybe we only ever tested 8

Had a dig around and the machine templates are text files found (on a mac) at ~/Applications/Avid Media Composer/SupportingFiles/Machine_Templates/

You could try editing one to make audio channels 16 and see if that got you anywhere... buyer beware

An avid tech went ahead and sent a new template my way.  That is indeed all that needed to be done.  Basically, it looks like the tech duplicated whichever txt deck template matched our deck preferences (in this case a SRW_5500 24p) and simply changed the audio tracks to 16 from 12 and hit save.  This is great to know for the future.

Re: Digital Cut 16 ch audio via HD-SDI to Cinedeck

The latter.  Avid Digital Cut would not output ch 13-16.  In the past when I had a 24 ch delivery, I did some creative mapping within the Cinedeck GUI to direct audio to the appropriate channels.  However, in that case, there were only 10 or 12 channels with actual audio on them.  The rest were empty tracks.  Discovery's new specs require 16 full channels, so this is a different issue.  Luckily it's an easy enough fix.

Now that I know it's as simple as manipulating a .txt file, I will try creating a custom Cinedeck setting for my bay and see how it pans out.  However, it would be nice if Cinedeck provided a Machine Template with their hardware.
