    Avid MC won't AMA import

    On MC 8.9.3

NOT running High Sierra - we are on 10.12.6 Using external USB 3.0 drives (like we always have). But lately the MC sees the folder set from our Sony PMW-F5 but refuses to do an AMA import. Click..nothing. Click, click, click…nothing. Noticed permissions were wrong. Changed them so “everyone” was included and applied to all subfolders. Restart MC…still nothing. Click..nothing. Click, click, click…nothing. Only two options work. 1) drive down into the folder and select only the MXF files to AMA import (never had to do this before) And even then the MC lists an error where it says it must insist on transcoding right away (goodbye background transcode convenience)  2) copy media onto my internal drives and then import (not fast or practical). Thoughts?

    Found a clunky workaround.

I search for all the MXF files via the finder for those folders, then option drag them into a folder.

    Still...AMA import SHOULD work, no?

    hello?

    Huh?

Hey, Fish, this works on my system (I select the Private folder in the Source Browser selection window (right window)).

Are you sure you've got the right sony AMA plugins installed?

    It's a half-fix.

You'll get media but not the associated metadata from the camera. So you won't - for example - know what Profile the camera was set to, and therefore, what LUT (if required) should be added.

Re: Avid MC won't AMA import

Yeah, well...the Avid always did a piss-poor job of figuring out which LUT to apply anyway. I always stripped off it's "suggestion" and made my own recipe.

The description of my problem is remarkably similar to this forum post: http://community.avid.com/forums/p/180489/841141.aspx

Yet, any solutions they provide don't work or apply to me.

This is very sad. I had a great workflow before and now it's clunkier and slower.

And, once again..I appear to be alone in my plight.

    Sigh.

Just for the record... completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the MC software. Same problem. I've lost my source browser's power to AMA import.

    Sad

Re: Avid MC won't AMA import

However...on the plus side: if I option drag the MXF clips in and then try to transcode in the BG,

    that appears to be working!!!

At least for the one clip I tried.

But the browser does not update the progress bar without me hitting refresh.
