    GoPro 6 and HEVC

Ive just bought an Hero 6 Black the 4K and higer fps shooting modes are are HEVC encoded, so if you want to access those you’ll need to update to macOS High Sierra.

Since we "cant" upgrade to HS yest how are people dealing with higher framerates and resiolutions.

The avid browser seems very picky on what it will, and will not link to, from where I could then transcode into an editing codec.

Even at 1080p nothing above 50 fps (pal) seems linkable.

as an update, Premiere, paused loaded a CODEC and works fine with these 4K and high fps insers!

Whatis the workflow for 4k on avid when the avid browser wont even link to them?

Are there new "AMA" plugins abvailable?

I don't know about the HEVC format, but make sure you are either in a 4k project, or that you have temporarily changed the project formt to 4k before trying to link. Once you go to transcode, the best option is to be in the format of whatever resolution you are transcoding to.

    Re: GoPro 6 and HEVC

    Still doesnt work,

I chaged the format to UHD and still am unable to link to UHD GoPro Files ( 2.7K at 50fps is OK).

I started an UHD project at 4K 50fps ( the highest avid will go) unable to link to HD at more than 50fps or 4K at any fps from GoPro files.

Externally transcodíng ( Media Encoder) the 50fps 4K GoPro files to DNxHR enables linking and enables FrameFlex.

    Re: GoPro 6 and HEVC

If you are doing much transcoding, check out EditReady. I'll often use the rewrap function when transferring XAVC-S or GoPro files to my Raid drive (straight from my original). It takes about the same amount of time as simply copying the files, and it seems to clear up a lot of hiccups that seem to plague the more consumer-based formats. Since I am doing it for the initial copy, it doesn't add to the workflow time. The file size remains nearly the same, and MC seems happier.

Unfortunately the "consumer" GOPROs are used by a lot of productions I edit for.

I do not want to transcode everything,

just use browser to selct a clip, link to it then transcode or consolidate just the part required.
