    Working with 50i in a 50p Project

    Hi,

First ever post in Avid Community so please be gentle!

I have some archive content which I need to use in a 50p edit. This archive content is 50i - what is the best way to work with it?

Can I simply work with it in a 50p sequence right off the bat using Avid's motion adapter - or do I need to do a double deinterlace conversion (or any type of conversion for that matter)?

    Thanks,

    jberrr

Re: Working with 50i in a 50p Project

I would start with a 50p-project and import your 50i legacy media as it is. place it on a 50p timeline and see how it looks in Avid. You may play a little with the settings of the motion adapter. If the quality is o.k. for you, you have done it. If not, you will need a transcoding software. However, I am not sure, whether the transcoding will deliver a better quality then MC's handling with the motion adapter.

I made a little test with UHD-source media transcoded to 1080/50p and to 1080/25i.

In a 1080/50p project I created a sequence and placed the 1080p-clips on V1 and the 1080i-clips on V2. MC has automatically added FrameFlex "T" effects on the interlaced clips (as they hve 25 fps in a 50fps sequence). Playing the sequence, I do not recognize any difference between interlaced and progressive clips.

So your initial question can be answered as follows: Just creaate a 50p-project and then just link your interlaced media. It will give you all you need automatically.

Don't import. AMA link and then Transcode.
