Re: Anyone using the i9-7900 with Media Composer yet?

    Doc_Holiday:

Sorry for the delay. I saw your post earlier but got busy and didn’t respond. I have been using the i9-7900X for several weeks now in my new workstation build and I must say it’s been awesome...

Hey Doc - thanks for the feedback - glad to hear you are having such success with this new platform.

Are you using the Thunderbolt 3 for external storage?

    Cheers

are you still happy with your i9 system? Is Thunderbolt working ok? I'm considering a similar build with the asus prime deluxe x299..

You might want to wait a month or so, because there's a new Gigabyte X299 motherboard due to be released that will have Thunderbolt on-board.

From what I've read, it's called the X299 Designare and is due late December.

I am still very happy with it. However a power surge during a storm got past my surge protection via a network cable and damaged my Motherboard. I ended up having to replace it as operation became unstable and one of the network ports no longer worked. (MAKE SURE YOUR NETWORK SWTICEHS AND MODEMS ALSO HAVE SURGE PROTECTION!) Asrock responded and sent me a replacement board however I took the opportunity to try out the recently released Gigabyte X299 Designare MB with built in thunderbolt 3 ports. I couldn't resist:) Now i don't believe in overclocking workstations however the x7900 seems to turbo to a higher clock speed in the Gigabyte board than in the Asrock. This might have something to do with the fact that It has a second 8pin power connector for the CPU. My advice if you are considering building a x299 system would be to get a board (Asus, Asrock, or Gigabyte) that has this feature if you are using a 10 core CPU or higher. Asrock just released the update to my board that has this feature called the i9 Gaming Professional XE. I think I will be sticking with Gigabyte board however as I don't need a AIC for the thunderbolt 3 Ports and it makes for a cleaner build in my tempered glass case.
