    Hi Keith,

if you do not connect any external USB devices to the your Toshiba laptop, then maybe your DVD has the letter (path) E:\ ?

Have you some CD/DVD disk within DVD drive?

    Geeked

    p.s.

maybe it's your SD Card have a letter "E" and write-protected, and for this reason MC|First can not create directory there.

Does a re-write help maybe  not understood.

    Does this help

I recently downloaded a free version of Avid media Composer First .

The installation stalls at the Interface and the Error Message in the box with the Yellow Triangle is :-

Exception : Can't create a directory one of the folders in the path below has insufficient permissions  Path E\xxxx\

The program freezes the computer (Laptop) at the error message .

(Running Windows 10 home on 17.3" i7 good Laptop..

i am reading the identical issue in several Professional Video Reviews ...

There are posts on this issue back to July 2 no doubt this issue has been addressed..?

    Kind Regards

    for Keith R

What is your E: drive? Is it an internal hard drive in the computer? Is it an external hard drive attached via a cable? Is it something else?

    Hello Carl

    (1) there is no E: drive Toshiba I7 Laptop with internal (C) and (D) only

Could we pls home in on that error message .

All I can best offer is Media Composer and just about anything else I would rather not post here will auto find\Create\Install necessary Paths\Folders .

Media Composer First will not , we have the Interface and then the Exception: ie:- error message I have posted so many times ...

    Keith R:

Your laptop has a built-in internal SD card Reader, which the Windows assigns the letter E, if you insert there SD Card.

To solve this "Exception Can't create a directory", insert any SD card with Write Protect Tab up (see picture above) and run MC|First.

Re: Media Composer First 8.9.1 Exception Can't create a directory

Pilot is not referring to a SSD. He's referring to the multi-card reader which takes SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. There may actually be a card in there that's write locked. In any case, the suggestion is to put in a SD card in write mode and then try again.

    Unquote

    Hello again

Down the road purchase micro SDHD card 16Gb

Computer Shop purchase Havic external card reader

Run Media Composer First try again

Now the Program has accepted the card as you suggested, one more small step ok ....

The Interface is up and ready to go

    next problem ..

The Program stalls and locks up the Computer ...

Media Composer will install and run on this computer without this external drive ... ??

in any case we now have the requested Path E: etc etc the Program still will not run

now jumped all the hurdles up to the interface re-visiting the computer I suspect the next

    hurdle may be graphics maybe

Just a note on the Toshiba P70 B again the is no internal card reader and no other program requires one

    Windows 10 Home on Toshiba P 70 B Toshiba MB Intel i7 472 HQ 16 GB Ram

    Graphics Intel HD 4600 (Toshiba)

    AMD Radion R9 M2 65 x (Radion)

    Storage 931 GB Avail (Toshiba)

Two more flags - Is Windows 10 Home (current) and the Toshiba Graphics under spec for this creation maybe we should just quit ..
