hi
i am trying to export my 50 minutes video for vimeo but don tknow hot to go on
clips are originally 1920x1080 50p 50mbs
project is at 25p though
i transcoded all at dnxhd
tried to export quicktime with h264 and it takes more then 10 hours
i read is beeter to do not use h264 coded though
so what shall i use for a fast and vimeo compatible quality export?
thanks
I use Sorenson Squeeze, x264 is the best codec, I have noticed blocking with their other codecs especially when cuts go from stills to video but x264 is clean. Internal setup is 2 pass VBR, 8000kbps, 1920x1080. Sorenson will re-compress your video after you upload it. You might want to try a lower bit rate, 50 minutes at 8000kbps will be up to more than several gigs in file size after compression.
I have never tried to compress a video for upload to Vimeo using the Avid Media Composer compressor. Others have used Adobe Media Encoder, TMPGEnc has been mentioned a lot on the forum with positive results, I’ve never tried it.
Vimeo recommends H.264 however I believe .MOV, FLV, WebM and WMV will also work.

ok but when exporting in avid...what shall i do?
I export out of Avid for compression using Sorenson Squeeze at 175x or 220x I set the rendered output inside the Media Creation tool under settings. Export is Quicktime Movie, Same as Source. Maybe my method is overkill but the final quality on Vimeo is real good. Seeing as most of my work is for the web I use Vimeo as a delivery platform for my clients uploading and giving the client a link to my Vimeo review page, when they are happy with the cut I turn on the download button.
I should add that I shoot everything in 10bit color, so I keep my entire workflow at 10 bit.
