The plot thickens, as it always seems to do with Avid offers.
According to information posted by Videoguys here under the "Included" Tab:
"You will receive an redemption code that will add Avid Symphony Option to your current account. You will be able to continue to use that Symphony Option for as long as you keep an active Avid Standard Support contract"
Does this mean that if a user doesn't renew his/her Support Plan after one year that he/she can still use Media Composer "stalled" at the last valid version, but without the Symphony option?
There is no mention of this restriction anywhere on the Avid Product offer page.
Also, Videoguys don't mention anywhere that this offer is tied to a Support renewal - but Avid do.

Actually the plot is quite ok.... Job discovered last week that the promo which we are soon to be releasing was inadvertantly released thru Videoguys.com in error.
We still have not released is yet but when we do I will post here and on Facebook.
The offer will be tied to a suport contract - i.e. if you have had one and have one still then you are eligible.

Oh Dear Oh Dear, we do seem to have opened a can of worms here.
The Avid offer that was posted here: http://www.avid.com/special-offers/renew-mc-get-symphony has now turned in to a "Page not found" error, and the Videoguys offer here: http://www.videoguys.com/symphony-option-promo.html now includes this new text:
---renew your Media Composer Upgrade & Support Plan before December 31st for just 299 USD, and get the option to buy Symphony for an additional 99 USD.
The joys of the internet and up to the minute News.
Unfortunately, Videoguys.com jumped the gun on the offer. Its not out until Thursday of this week.
Deets to follow shortly....

I have a slight puzzlement: I have a "permanent" license and I'm dongle based. I bought the $99.00 update as soon as it was announced on Videoguys. However on installing it, it seems that this update is not tied to the dongle but to the PC. Is that in fact the case or have I chosen the wrong option when upgrading?
If it is the case I would probably not have bothered with the purchase, since Resolve does pretty much everything that I need anyway.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not thumping the desk and going red in the face about this. I don't expect a refund. But I would have preferred the flexibility and reliability of dongle licensing at least as an option.
I too realize that I think I installed separately from the dongle. If there's any way I can move my online activation to my dongle, I'd appreciate that - mostly for the convenience of not having to reactivate if I wanted to just have the dongle plugged in so it wouldn't matter whether the user decided to use macOS or Windows sides on a computer running Boot Camp.

No when did you send it....
Can you PM me the content from within Community ???
Already taken care of. I now have Symphony on the dongle. Thanks Marianna (and Ajay).
I was thinking of upgrading to symphony but was wondering if it was really worth it. How does the color correction stand up to Resolve? Does anyone prefer the full suite in Symphony?
This might help: http://dylanreeve.com/videotv/avid/2012/colour-correction-in-avid-symphony.html
This is a good deal, but honestly I don't think it is. Resolve is pretty much the standard for colouring, and I don't know anyone who uses anything else for colouring - except for maybe temp grades but the standard colour tools in Avid will be good enough for that.
