rogue project entry in Media Tool: how to cleanup ?

I keep seeing a "rogue" project entry listed in Media Tool; there are no related files or media however (confirmed by MDV_Avid). This project has been deleted some time ago (isn't listed in the project's list upon MC startup), and isn't visible in anywhere in the obvious file system folders.

Where is this "stranded" entry stored ? How do I clean it up ?

What happens if you select that rouge project and tick all the boxes and all the drives and see what it shows.

    Then delete them.

Re: rogue project entry in Media Tool: how to cleanup ?

Lately I had more "stranded" entries in the Media Tool projects list..

    I went ahead and:

    1) manually edited the "Managed AMA Media Folders.xml" file for known unused locations from old projects

    2) deleted the corresponding folders in "AMA Metadata Folders"

The rogue entries are now gone in the Media Tool projects list Big Smile

The next step would be to clean up the stranded AAF and AMB files piling up in the "Background" folder...but I'd wait until my ongoing projects queue gets a little less populated (which may or may not ever happen...)

Re: rogue project entry in Media Tool: how to cleanup ?

If you have a "project" showing up in the Media Tool or MDV it's becuase there's a peice(s) of media still on a drive somewhere that was created with that project. The project something is created in is kept as meta-data in that media. Could be as simple as a title or a render that was accidentally sent to the wrong drive ( or C drive).

All you can do is select only that project in the media tool and see what it lists. Then look at that clips or media's drive column and see where it resides. You can even right click on it and choose reveal file. Once that media is removed from the AvidMediafiles fodlers, then it will stop showing up. Just make sure it's not a piece of media you need. Perhaps you imported color bars in an older project, then copied that media over to a new project, it could still have metadata associated with the old project, but you very much need it in your current project.

Understood, but as explained in the first post, in this case the problem was that there were NO media files of any kind reported by Media Tool or MDV on ANY drive for the "offending" project; this is now solved by the procedure decribed here above which I decided to post just in case someone facing the same situation would search the forums...It looks like the simple presence of a record of past AMA folders in "Managed AMA Media Folders.xml", even when all media files of a deleted project are properly erased, is enough for the Media Tool to list the 'ghost' project. Basically just a small cosmetic issue.
