Relinking from 1080/50p to UHD/50p Media

My source media are UHD/50p. I wanted to do color grading within Resolve and then copy media to MC. As performance of my LapTop is mot high enough to directly run in UHD-mode, I set the project format in Reslove to 1080/50p. I have linked all media and did color grading. I have then sent the timeline (1080p50) together with the rendered media to MC (Avid-AAF Export).

Within Avid I did the editing with these media files (1080/50p). When I finished, I wanted to get the final sequence relinked to UHD/50p media. In order to get the color graded UHD media, I opened Resolve, and set the project to UHD/50p. I have then exported the previously color graded timelines with render setting to UHD/50p and DNxHR SQ codec settings. The rendered files (mow UHD format) were coppied into a seperate folder under Avid MediaFiles\MXF. In my case the 1080/50p files were stored at folder 16 while the UHD/50p files were stored in folder 17.

Within Avid MC I wanted to relink the final sequence (1080/50p) to the new UHD media. I tried all kinds of settings in the relink window - but never succeeded.

    Can someone help?

First off I'd make sure all the HD Avid media is offline (move the numbered folder 16 out of the MXF folder)

Now from the Avid MXF folder 17 drag the msmMMOB.mdb file to an empty Avid bin.

This should give you all the clips at UHD.

With this bin open and the clips selected you should be able to right click you sequence (currently showing offline media) and choose relink and to selected.

If that doesn't work (and it maynot) then I don't think you can do it your way. Basically the second Resolve set of media may not have the same relationship as the original set.

In the worst case scenario You'll have to cheat tape names on both Resolve and MC, and relink by that, if it ever the TC remained the same with the two Resolve exports...

    Thank you Pat,

it worked fine, and I can now relink to UHD-media.

Also thanks to Luca. As Pats proposal worked fine, I did not test your proposal.
