23.976 media in a 25p project, how convert?

    Hi

We have got drone media filmed in wrong fps. The project format is in 1080p/25.

Is it After Effects that is needed here? Or work with a newer version of Avid? (8.00 is used here)

    BR

edit: drone media, so the sound is not critical

In the source settings you can change the clip to 25f, it will become a bit slower. Maybe you like it.

    best

    AE is not needed.

load it in 23,97, edit it.

during finishing, decide on a clip per clip basis to play at 100% speed without artifacts or with whatever timewarp algorithm works best. ususally it's either fluid motion (flawless if there are no artifacts) or blended interpolated.

The best thing you could do is link the clip to a 25p project, right click on the clip's source settings, set the playback rate to 25. Then insert it in the timeline  and export it as a 25p clip. You will then have all frames as they were originally but slightly closer together in time (playing faster), no motion blur or anything nasty like that added. Then link or import that now 25p clip.

    @V- block: i wholeheartedly disagree.

    Online at original framerate.

    edit

if you don't need sync: set speed to 100 in timewarp.

Re: 23.976 media in a 25p project, how convert?

Surely you will then needlessly have a 23.976 clip in a 25 project which will be prone to having unwanted motion effects added. If you convert the clip to 25p it will basically be 25p but slightly shorter as it must be.

but it's more work & disk space now as well as during re-online.

ingesting "as is" and maybe altering playback speed of a whole bin yields the same result causing less of a mess.

also: who knows if you might need sync.

    my 2 cents.

also OP has probably already wrestled the problem & we're discussing dis only for posterity's sake.

I agree with Lukas.  Having the unaltered source clip in your project gives you the power of choice.  In situations like this I look at every shot and attempt to find the best solution for THAT shot.  Most times I find something in Avid.  Sometimes I have to go to Alchemist.  Sometimes to AfterEffects (more flexible Timewarp effect).

Re: 23.976 media in a 25p project, how convert?

But the new 25p clip would be unaltered, all the frames would simply play at a faster rate. If you use fluidmotion later or any other motion modifier, that will definitely introduce some sort of artifacts needlessly. At the very least, as the audio is unimportant, the original 23.976 clip should be set to 25p in the source settings when using it in a 25p project but it would be better to illiminate that potential mismatch first.

No need to change frame rate first. Setting the motion editor to 100% get you to the same place.  Make sure you have selected Both Fields.  Then feel free to experiment from that point on.
