No news yet as far as I am aware but I know this is on their radar. Maybe someone from Avid can chime-in with an expected timeline for this.

Re: Any chance we can get Avid to scale on a 4k screen anytime soon?

Media Composer used to fill screens of different resolutions until 8.7 allowing editi on different res screens, although not at 4K - at least it filled the monitors. Since 8.7 this has become impossible making my 34" 4k monitor useless for AVID except in 8.6. No one seems to know why, give an answer as to why this "feature" was removed, or even comment on it. PLEASE put it back so those of us using higher res monitors can edit with Avid, not jsut apps like Sony's Catalyst software, that displays in 4K.

And yes, 4K output would be wonderful.

Re: Any chance we can get Avid to scale on a 4k screen anytime soon?

It is obviously criminally unbelievable that it is 2017 and Media Composer, the once pre-eminent film and video editing program can't display properly on 4K displays. This single and unbelievable characteristic has pushed me to Adobe Premiere Pro, so much so that I haven't used Media Composer in months, and don't think I will go back even if they add 4K support. I've gotten used to Premiere Pro, and all the plugins for Avid such as NewBlue and Boris are available for Premiere, and at a much cheaper price. I'm actually forgetting my Media Composer chops. I loaded it the other day and was semi-lost for awhile. I'm running on a 3 display setup and when Media Composer loads it is a total sh** show. Garbled fonts, displays stretching across screens, a total mess.

Oddly, Pro Tools, while not completely happy, is at least functional in 4K.

I can understand why a free consumer video program would not scale properly at Hi DPI, but the presumed editing flagship standard-bearer? And I've been beotching about this along with others for years to no avail. People who edit video HAVE TOP SHELF COMPUTERS. It is patently triggering that there is no support for the wheelhouse computers of most video and film editors.

If I sound crazed about this it is because I was once proud to be able to spend serious money on Media Composer and edit with the same program as the "big boys" of film. Now? Why bother? They are not keeping up with basic display technology.

Re: Any chance we can get Avid to scale on a 4k screen anytime soon?

Windows 10 Creators Update was just released today and offers a Compatibility option that will scale old software on high DPI screens. I just tried MC on a 4K/UHD laptop screen and it works! (For the most part.)

First, locate the shotcut for Media Composer (and for App Manager too), right-click and choose "Properties," then the "Compatibilty" tab. Check the box marked "Override high DPI scaling behavior" and set it to "System" (instead of Application).

Unfortunately not everything scales. The mouse pointer icons for the smart tools are still teeny tiny for example, but this might hold me over until a new Avid release addresses the DPI issues properly.

Here's how to get the Creators Update right now, via the Media Creation Tool: http://www.windowscentral.com/you-can-now-upgrade-windows-10-creators-update-early

Here's a Microsoft blog post detailing the new DPI setting in-depth: https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/2017/04/04/high-dpi-scaling-improvements-desktop-applications-windows-10-creators-update/#6g4pzT7dfY4fMcu2.97

    wkumingo,

    thanks for the tip!

i did upgrade my win 10 today from anniversary to creators, to tryout a new UHD monitor, and it's pretty good.

it was so retarded before - from avid - compared to most of my other softwares that would instantly scale up.

    actually, pretty cool :-) Yes

Great tips about the creators update option, thanks for that.  There is also the option to select custom scaling in the 'display' settings, I've found 160 to work well with MC with only minor clipping on text in the menu bars & it keeps the text nice and crisp!

Re: Any chance we can get Avid to scale on a 4k screen anytime soon?

Will try that fix. thanks for the heads up.

    PLEASE PLEASE AVID.

Can someone from the company at least chime in on this?

We are well into the era of Hi Res/DPI screens and given that Media composer claims to be the market leader this should be a small fish for AVID to sort out.

    actually one more question.

Whats the general test period length? while i get that it could be 'how long is a peice of string' type question are there any thoughts on when this will be added?

    thanks
