You could give us some details for starters.  What version, what OS, was the download file size the same that was indicated on the downoad link, etc.

MacPro, MacBook Pro and a Cube (masquerading as a kleenex dispenser). [view my complete system specs]

Must think of something clever to go here...

In finder, launch /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app. It will prompt you to locate a .pkg file to install. Navigate to the .dmg volume you've mounted, and select the AvidMediaComposer.pkg file.

Installation should proceed normally from there.

Another solution is to Get Info (CMD+I) on the opened DMG and uncheck "Ignore ownership on this volume."

This only happens with MacOS X El Capitan (10.11.x).

I believe more recent installers have lessened this problem, but it still longer than necessary. If you wait a couple of minutes, it should work.

Frankly, I just do the permissions change automatically every time I get a download.

Experienced the same problem again while updating to 8.9.2. I have had this problem once in the past, than it seemd to work well for the last couple of updates and now it started to make trouble again. Is this an OSX or an Avid issue?

Unchecking "igonre ownership..." helped (again). Thanks!!!
